RC Driving Style
Hi, I am a newbie so be kind to me.

I have just pruchased a HPI MT2 and I am tryin to run it in and I have a problem.

I have run a few tanks through as a static run - in and I am now trying to do the half throttle run ins. This is where I have my problem the car does not move forward at all even under 3/4 throttle.

I am not sure what is wrong. The brakes are not dragging and the wheel nuts are on tight.

One thing that I have noticed is that I can't seem to adjust the slipper clutch much and when holding the wheels I can't really move the spur gear.

The other thing is that off the engine there is a silver collet thats hold the clutch plates and springs. This seems to turn with the finger pressure about 1 full turn - is this right?

Cheers Rob

When you give the engine throttle, is the clutchbell spinning against the spur gear? If the clutchbell doesn't spin, bit the flywheel does, when you apply throttle, could be the clutch springs popped off. If the engine revs but the flywheel and clutchbell don't spin, then the flywheel isn't seated on the collet on the crankshaft.

I'd suggest taking the engine out of the truck and make sure the collet is on the crankshaft tight, that the flywheel is seated on the collet, that the crankshaft nut is tight, that the clutch springs are on and that the clutchbell itself is tightly screwed into the crankshaft nut. Once you've done that, put the engine back into the truck and make sure you mesh the gears correctly. Chances are that'll lick the problem, but if not, you know the issue is somewhere in the drivetrain.

Good luck!

Is this your first nitro? If so, it may also be that it's so rich that it isn't getting up to the RPM's to engage the clutch. You may be too new to know what a engine is supposed to sound like yet. Since your only on tank 3, your still in the midst of break-in. It' takes anywhere from a quart to a gallon to have these engines fully broken in. Normally half a quart or so before it's running right.

From the factory, most engines are set overly rich.

yea olds is right, my first nitro rc was a mt2 and when i got it it was so rich it would not even barley move so after i let it idle a few tanks for break in i leaned out the high speed needle a little bit until i was able to drive it around my yard. remember to go easy on it until the break in is done.

That is what I was thinking too Olds.
Most of the new ones don't realize the needle settings are rich and they won't move until you lean them out a bit.

Lean the carb out a very little.....

Cheers guys - I will try it. I am currently on the factory setting. Three full turns from fully rich

I am a total newbie to Nitro. I used to race electric 12 years ago but left so I could afford to run my 1:1. :)

I even have the HPI Dvd - doesn't mention it in there or the instructions - how are we supposed to known???

Thanks again guys I will check this before taking the engine out.
