If you take the time to install the X center trans while you have it out, frickenjoey, you'll be glad you did. It's a direct bolt-in for the 25; no mods at all.
 
i just dont have the money at the moment to do this, so i was thinking i would just throw in the gears from my other tranny. i also thought about selling this, or maybe trading it for something on-road, a little less likely to break all the time, just so i have my need for speed cured up every once in a while.
 
Ah, I don't blame ya there. You should be able to do a direct swapping of the gears, since the only thing that changed from the Savage.21 to the X is one screw in the two speed assembly (I actually compared the parts lists). Even the bearings are the same.
 
i really don't know...its run for a total of 2 months in the year I've had the truck.

Both of mine have the three speed now...The first to be modded with the higher third is my XSS....so it has the X case.....the .25 is in depot status....has not been ran in a long time. I have the higher gear for it too when ever I get around to putting it in.

i just got the trans out..easier with the way you told me to do it. deff. something in there. I'm gonna open it up so i dont have to transfer all the brakes and everything over

mainly because of a few stripped screws on the other case
 
got it all back together now. the truck has never moved as smooth as it is right now, making me think the tranny was a little rough when i got it. i can't wait to see how she runs tomorrow
 
DON'T BREAK IT! Naw, just kidding. Good luck, I hope you don't have any more problems. I know if I had someone selling a Savage in my area I'd jump at it.
 
noe i just need some help por favor. i took her out for as test run today, the 1st attempt to shift was beautiful, then after that, the engine kept revving higher and high without shifting. then, when i decided to take it in the revvs were really high for not much speed at all..whats the problem?!?!
 
Two possibilities. Either the slipper clutch nut worked loose, or you blew out the one-way bearing for 1st gear.

I've yet to see the one way bearing in 1st gear blow out, so I'd suspect the slipper nut. If it worked loose on you, search for the "slipper coming loose - the fix" thread. That details a fix that will literally cost you pennies.
 
will do. muchas gracias. i didnt have much time to try and figure it out between school and work.
 
i just took her out, after tightening the slipper, she ran beautifully. shifting to 2nd gear perfectly, even going faster than the rs4. then, the slipper came loose again
i brought her in, tighened it a little bit more than halfway from out to see if it would hold....bogs down right before the shift and shuts off. is this normal?
 
i had it leaned out because theres a ton of smoke and it bogs down when you give it full throttle

the engine temp was at 220 also
 
Could still be slipping on you... you said you screwed it in half way?

From what I remember with my savage, screw the nut down until the spring is compressed completely then back it off 1/4-1/2 turn. I never had issues with my slipper nut loosening... guess I was just lucky. Or my threadlock worked.
