mbx5 or xb8?

I'm a noob to 1/8th scale buggies but i have handed down my 2 rc10gts to my son now that hes old enough to start racing.I've been trying to decide if i should build a mt or buggie for racing and I'm still having trouble decideing.as far as building a buggie my 2 choices are the mbx5 and xb8,my lhs has a mbx5 kit for 500.00 (trying to close out the 3 they have left before they get the prospec) and there getting the xb8 soon but itll be over 600.00.what do you experts think?how much diffrent is the mbx5 vs the prospec to be 250.00 more  the xb8 looks like a great kit but is it that much better than the mugen for the extra 150.00?
any help/opnions to help me decide on the buggie is much appreciated.

Well I know all the MBX owners will say the MBX is better but been an XB8 owner I would say XB8 all the way, However If your intentions is not for pure racing then I would not suggest an XB8. If you just want a back yard basher then you may want to consider a considerably cheaper buggy. Now if the price is an issue I would say go with the MBX or maybe even a Hyper7. Both very good buggys.

i do plan on racing the buggie,my son will be racing the 1/10 scale trucks and i need a new race buggie or truck.we are in alaska so the season is only 4.5 months long and it isnt prolevel racing by any means but from what i understand we do have alot of guys with a good track and I'm wanting something reliable and fast.i do like the fact that the xb8 comes with good tools, battery and glossy build sheet and our lhs owners son (owned the shop for over 20 years)will be getting these to race next season so that shows me that it must be real nice cause they have there choice of prospec,777,or whatever they want.

XB8 with a OS vzb V-SPEC is the way to go. That's the mill I am running and let me tell you this thing moves.

if i go buggie i was already planning on the v-spec.great looking mill with o.s. tunabilty, should be awsome wether its in mugen or xray.hows the hopups or spare parts availbilty on the xb8?

Hpp-ups are included in the xb8. Check out the builds by Corradopsi and Fasteddy. His is in the members projects forum. Dont think you can go wrong with either,do a search and you will find tons. I have driven PSI's with the vspec, and it is a very fast very stable buggy. The only "problem" is getting parts, you have to ored them at this time.

theres an XB8 for $550 on the bay with free US shipping..thats what I would get

parts shouldnt be a problem much longer as the US shipments are being released

xb8 all the way bro....parts will be available everywhere soon...

www.rcpit.net has xb8's at super deals to low to list....plus the people there are top notch

hirez(will) posts on here alot....i bought mine from him.... call the number on the site and talk to either will, ben, or steven....mention the RCNT site and let the good times roll.....

hope this helps
Mitch

I fyou want to check out the MBX-5 parts, and prices go to Nitrohouse.com If you don't see it call them. Nice people. Willing to help, and they seem to have the best prices online. I like my Mugen. Can't speek for the XB8.

if you want mugen, the prospec is your best value since it has a lot of hopups in it. though its more expensive than the Xray, which also has all the hopups included. i love my Xray, very easy to drive fast. very easy to change setups on, and it responds well to changes. i have no personal mugen experience though.

is 500.00 a good deal on the non prospec version of the mugen kit? i think id rather buy the xb8 but maybe i should try dealing with my lhs on the mugen sense they have 3 left there trying to closeout before getting any of the prospecs.here in ak its offseason and most people are gearing up for indoor elec racing and monstertruck bashing in the snow so the lhs trys to sell all there summer models and stock only mt and elec stuff.

my thoughts since i own both the XB8 and the mbx5Prospec.

The mbx5 needs hop ups its not strong enough, the prospec has all these options already and would compete easily with the xb8.
The XB8 is a magic kit straight out of the box, I've only broken a shock shaft on the xb8 and its seen a fare bit of track already,

being fare to both cars, they are both brilliant pieces of work, and i think it should come down to personel choice, just remember that mugen seiki have a bad habit of releasing a new car not long after the prospecs are released, so if you buy the mbx5 it may not be the latest mugen for long,

My 2 cents

thanks again for all the replies,I'm still leaning towards the mugen just because the price is good and the 150.00 id save over the xb8 would by a good chunk of the hopups needed to be more like a prospec.I'm going to talk with my lhs and see on the pricing for the xb8 but there kits still havent arived.

Mitch
thanks for the link.

one more question guys,if i do go ahead with the mugen what would be the first 4 or 5 items that i should upgrade with the prospec parts? ill be buying my kit this week (unless i wait for the xb8,my lhs says there backordered) and I'm in no hurry to complete the build as i wont even start the thing till late march or april when things start to thaw out.i may just get the parts as i build.

mikeburgin - how does your Kanai III compare? Have you driven a 777?
All of these top line cars are honestly much of a muchness, i have now driven a 777 and yes it is nice but like i said these cars are all NICE to drive

If you are in no hurry, and not going to build for 4-5 months I would wait to buy the kit. There will either be another buggy out, or maybe the price will be cheaper on the one you want.

If you do go with the MBX-5, and want to upgrade it, check out other companies for your parts besides Mugen. They may be cheaper, and just as good. I don't know as I haven't researched it, but it makes sense to me. The main items to upgrade to me would be shock towers, and chasis braces, but some would say they wouldn't even do that unless the originals become a problem.

i would first go for the upgraded hub carriers etc...maybe even steering parts...something like that ...that would affect the handling of the buggy...and like hypedonrc said...the shock towers because they may offer more tuning ability....

what ever you get you will be happy with it...new buggies always drive good...it is when they start to wear out that things go wrong...and go wrong often....just buy the one you like and smile cause your gonna love it....

peace,
Mitch

thanks again for the help.I'm going to start building the kit soon alittle at a time and upgrade as i go, i just dont need to finsh it till spring.
now I've noticied that you can buy a k3 for 510.00 on a site one of you linked for me so now I'm really confused,my lhs sells this kit for over 700.00 on sale!
