Who else out there has an X-Mod? My GF (fiancee) got me one of these for Christmas, and I've gotta say it's an impressive car coming from Radio Shack. Different motors, gears, AWD conversion, suspension upgrades, tire and wheel choices (even foams), custom decal sheets.
This a fun little car....it's pretty quick with the upgraded stage 2 motors!
Anyone out there modding one of these up? Do you have any tips/suggestions? Anyone raced against a Mini-Z?

I got them for my kids for x-mas and i've got to say i'm pretty impressed with them so far. They also got gift certificates to Radio Shack, so I took them to the Shack to get some mods. They got the stage 2 motors for them along with the wheel upgrades. They put there money together so they could get those. After they get there motors in I will post how they do. Now I can't wait to get one for me. They are great little kitchen racers. I've also read online that you can put an extra cell in them (anyone know how?). How about some other mod ideas?:whack:

i gto the black honda civic for christmas from "santa",,and i goes fast for the stock motor,,and i aalso got the four batt. charger, and today i went to radio shack and bought the ugrade motors and the upgrade wheels and rubber tires, and the honda civic body kit..i am waiting for my radio shack to get the suspesion upgrade in and the AWD upgrade..

i love it i run it around my dinning room and poop.and it goes good on the carpet too.

So far i've got the suspension upgrade, stage 1 and stage 2 motor upgrades, foam tires, light kit, rechargeable battery kit, and the decal kit. The stage 2 motors kick ass majorly over the stocker, and over the stage 1 kit. I would personally skip over the stage 1 and go right to the stage 2. Also, for RadioShack, the rechargeable battery kit is a killer deal...they normally charge $19.99 for a pack of (4) 700mah AAA's. The kit comes with 8 AAA's and a quick charger for $24.99.
Also, the light kit is pretty sweet....the headlights get brighter when you accellerate and the tailights get brighter when you brake!
I'm still waiting for the AWD kit to come in, all the RadioShacks around here (4 of them) are all out.
For $49.99, these little boogers are pretty sweet!

ohh yeah, check out this site: www.xmodworld.com

yea i got the light kit to all the Radioshacks(all8)are out of the suspension and awd upgrade

Just got the AWD upgrade.... I drove all over Charlotte, and only one Radio Shack had it in, and I got the last one! I'm going to install it right now, I'll let you know how it does.

ok, just got around to finishing up the AWD and man does it make a HUGE improvement in handling and straight line accelleration! It doesn't spin out on smooth surfaces nearly as easy as before. 100% worth-while upgrade.
I'm running the 4.5 degree steering rack, stock slicks, stage 2 - 8 tooth motor with heatsink, red springs with the metal piston shocks, and the AWD upgrade. For what I'm running on (smooth laminate flooring) this seems to be the best setup for me!
As soon as I can get my hands on a micro pinion gear puller, I'm going to try out the SpinBrush motor mod. (already got the SB motor out, just can't get the pinion off the old motor to put on in).

The old SpinBrushes work better than the new ones, they had better motors put in them, and they are the same 180 size motor. You know, the motorized toothbrushes? The dang things have incredible torque!...if I could only get the damn pinion gear on it.

From what I understand they work great, they just don't produce as much power as the older models.

I just got the pinion gear puller in the mail today! After hooking up the SpinBrush motor, DAMN that things hauls now! The torque is incredible from this thing. If you do the SB motor mod, definately at least use the 10t gears, and if you want crazy top speed for this thing use the 11t gears.
Right now I'm using the 10t and it works best for me playing around the house on laminate floors.
Ohh yeah, take the endbell housing from your X-Mods motor and use it on the SB motor....the X-Mods has better brushes in it (and it'll save you lots of soldering time).
This is a motor mod you will not regret! It has the torque of the 8t with the speed of the 11t!

Gil how does the AWD upgrade work??? is it belt shaft does it require another motor what???? just asking as my friend has a couple and I just don't see how it would work...

The cars come wit a drive shaft that runs between the front and rear wheels. It's what hte spur gear is attatched to. The AWD kit just puts a gear on the front of it, and adds a driven front axle rig. (CV joints, diff, etc)

The AWD adds another driveshaft and another differential for the front. It also replaces the rear with a tighter diff that acts more like a spool. The AWD kit also comes with red a-arms to replace the front and the back....not necessary but makes it look more trick.

Take the plastic pinion off of the SB motor and use one of the brass pinions off of the X-Mod motors, I'd reccomend the 10t or above. Make sure you match up the pinion to the right driveshaft gear to keep the correct mesh.

ok well i took the plastic oine off i tied to pull tyhe pinon off and the shafyt started comin out and this is the stock one so i dont know....and i switch out the shafts and stuff?

nitroking, take the end off of the X-Mods motor and put it on the end of the SB motor. Desolder the piece on each side of the motor that is attached to the can of the motor. Then take of the end. To get the end off just pry up the 2 metal clips on each side of the housing. Swap the ends and then re-solder and you're done!
