This is my second C74, my first go at one ended in dissapointment, and I sold it as I was suffering from a bit of burnout at the time (thank you Tamiya!).

For this build, I threw in a used RES V3, WPLs own electronics "upgrade" package. It's...okay I guess? It lacks any dual rate settings, it should be their default electronics imo. It's "better" but still toy-grade and lacks a case, but it'll run the C74s 370 motor without burning up.

You cannot mount the RES V3 board into the C74 either, not without hacking ot bending things. I just shoved it and the speaker up into a gap in the body. Sometimes I wonder how well WPLs designers communicate with one another.

Later came a discounted W44KM kit, this was an Amazon return that was short a few pieces and being flipped, but for the price it was better than buying the upgrades on their own. Included was the 2-speed, wheel weights, and metal axles.

The 2-speed is nice for trailing, I set it up carefully and it hasn't given me any problems. I haven't stripped any gears but I don't go gung ho on metal upgrades for cheap RCs.

The metal axles are die cast and a bit thin for my liking, but if you shim them, loctite the grub screws and such, and keep and eye on the mesh they work. The biggest improvement is in the front hubs. Stock hubs don't have bearings nor bushings, just dry plastic cubs rubbing on dry hubs, you'll hear sqeaking at full lock. The metal axles come with bearings in the hubs.

Total budget was $70 for the Jimny, $60 for the KM kit, $20 for RES V3.

I would like to thank Bangood for their phoney "2 battery option", which entails them simply tossing in a spare Li-Ion that may not work with your RC (and might even burn up the board).
