I recently upgraded from a Tmaxx to a revo 3.3. I had some experience with the 3.3 from one of my Tmaxxs. But this one on the revo has given me all sorts of problems. Right out of the box its been problems. I broke the engine in on 20% fuel, and followed instructions by the book. Barely could keep engine running long enough to do so. Any way got it broke in finally and ran good for about 1/4 gallon of fuel. I'll get to the point...what is happening!!! I crank up cold engine... fires up good and is a little sluggish till it warms up..like most. Then engine gets hot and performs poorly. Shortly after engine will die and i cannot get to restart. when I get it to recrank it does wheelies and runs awsome for a minute or two and dies again. I'm sure its getting hot. long story short i can't keep it running long enough to finish a race. Every time it cranks its totally different. sometimes it cranks right up and idles good but as soon as i hit the gas it revs up shoots off then dies????? I have ran rich and lean done every thing and read all literature on traxxas website.
Now what i have done: yes yes i have went to factory settings and beyond! I have put on new carb body, and rebuilt carb. pulled the tank cleaned and inspected, o ring too. new fuel line too. tried hot and medium plugs.
carb is good, air filter is good ..I can't have any air leaks... everything has been replaced on the carb, fuel line, tank ect. any ideas?
Like i said i have done all the simple things everything that is on the website. maybe someone else has had a similar problem and knows a trick?

did you check for air leaks on the engine because a buddy of mine got a brand new 3.3 and it was doing right about the same thing yours is doing. . .and he took it off and checked the engine for leaks and it was leaking air right around the backplate, just a suggestion

No actually I didn't but i was searching on here and saw someone metion that. I will check first thing in the morning. I have only took that backplate off once, so I'm not sure what kind of seal is on there...if any. maybe i could put a little rtv on there just to make sure it seals??? Thanks

well of course i could'nt wait till mornin. I took off that back plate.. it was a little dirty in there, kind of a black wet film like dirt and fuel maybe? not sure if it was a leak or just the fuel and oil mixture. any way i rtv'ed it and got it back on. I know if that was the problem and it was leaking from there it will be fixed now.

Well, to rule out a general air leak anywhere on the engine, it's a good idea to rtv the backplate, carb neck and carb cinch bolt. Then if it acts like an air leak still, it could be your front bearing leaking on you.

i just found out today that my fuel tank o-ring is broken. And this is why my tune will not hold correct. Check that real good. Mine tore right at the back of the cap and its kinda hard to see it but check around the cap really really good.

who me?
If so i have not replaced it yet. The truck is in a 100% complete teardown and getting new bearings and I'm changing out the diff grease. My LHS didnt have just the O-Ring but I'm sure i got one at work.

Okay, did a full air leak check. And it is only leaking around the front bearing. So now what?

^^^ that was a good idea :goodpost::goodpost::goodpost: c all the help you got here :bowtothercnt: or you could buy a new bearing :money::money:

Thanks for all the help guys! I took the whole engine apart (complete disassemble) just to see if i could see anything wrong..you know. Well everything looked good i pulled the bearing that was leaking and reinstalled. And now i have no air leak... but have a new problem. I am going to post another thread to discuss this issue.

Why not keep it in this thread? Same engine, different problem. May help others to see the progression of the repairs needed.
