So I came across what appears to be an unused brand new WLToys 124017 buggy
Don't ask me how, but the wires are ripped out of the speed controller and the servo wire severed. I got it for $15

The servo is 3 wire so I just ordered a new one...same size, metal components.
Trying to find a factory ESC leads me to China and everything takes forever to ship. Can I get a Hobbywing 120 for example from the local hobby shop and just swap it out without issue? I figure this way if I ever want to upgrade the motor down the line I can, and also run 3s. For now 2s is fine

Any help would be appreciated

The receiver is separate so it sounds like I should be ok. If not, I guess Ill get what I need and learn throughout the process.
Thanks!!

Whats the stock motor? Are you wanting to keep using the OEM motor too with the new esc?

Which 120 HW esc are we talking about? If the G2 WP sensorless it would probably be too big. the 120A sensored would probably work. Might have to check dimensions. 10BL60 sensored would probably be the best bet for fit. Depending what turn or kv rating the stock motor is. Or if its brushed you would need a brushed esc such as the 1060

The current motor is a 4300kv designed to run 2s and my research shows the stock esc is 45amp.

I would like the ability to run 3s. Which would be recommended sensor or sensorless? Would the 10BL60 work on 3s

I greatly appreciate everyones help.

Gonna overpower that bad boy? I love it !!!
I'm currently tinkering with a similar car got a cogging issue I'm trying to fix
I may end up needing to replace like you as well

I believe the 10bl60 can do 3s. The sensored version atleast. The sensorless version would be too big for a 1/12 car.

Correction, it's only 2s max.

The 4300kv motor is gonna be a bit much on 3s. That's what most mini cars are only 2s. Unless you gear down.

The WL Toys 1/12 scale really isn't that big. Pretty much the same size as my 1/16 E revo, maybe slightly smaller.... my roommate had the 124016 which looks different, but Is the same chassis as the one you have.

You could honestly get away with a Hobbywing WP-16bl30. Should be plenty of ESC for something that small and light. QuadifyRC even recommends this ESC for this car on his blogs. Little reason to throw a full on 1/10 ESC in there unless you just want overkill IMO. I'd lob off that mini molex connector they come with before you even run it and solder up a deans plug/xt60/ec3 connector at a minimum.

I put a 130A and 3800 kv spektrum for 3s in the DeeRc. It was a fun few minutes for every single last one of those spur gears... 😂
I think I wiped out a driveshaft too.🤔
Funny tho. After I put a bit of JB Weld on the springs, those cheap universal joints took ALL the abuse I could throw at them! 😂
It was fun while it lasted.
