Going by your list , which size hex and nut drivers should I be getting? 7mm for sure for the wheel nuts , that much I know.

If you’re serious about getting the 1/8 stuff on top of what you’ve recently picked up-I’d grab these two. They come with some really swanky cases, and you’ll use them all. 🤙

These look great. Will these be useful on my 10th scale MT10 or is this strictly for 8th scale rigs?

I just wanna get squared away with getting tools for my current truck before start thinking about the 8th scale Sworkz Apollo RTR that I’m currently obsessed with 😃

Tools for me (us) and extra LiPo’s for the kids is the next purchase. MIP hex and nut drivers along with Loctite , lithium grease , screw drivers and needle nose pliers are what I’ll order tonight.

I'm a mechanic and a dork and I LOVE buying new tools!
If I am getting this correctly, you don't own a lot of tools?
I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the MIP stuff!
I hope you're as pleased as I am with them! 😎

I’d definitely recommend the 248 STICK. FAR less waste than liquid, tons more convenient, perfect for tiny fine thread RC fasteners, waiting 24hrs is no longer “detrimental”, and there is some lee-way for using over grease/machine oil.. So if you don’t have the time to, or simply forget a fastener or two-it’ll still lock the threads, just as if you’ve acentone’d, or brakekleen’d ‘em as usual..

There will always be those who disagree, or want to debate about it, but in 1/10, and 1/8 surface RC, nitro OR electric; this is ALL you’ll ever need. I’ve been using the blue stick for just over 20yrs without a single failure. 9g is what you want. Should last you at LEAST a year or better.

BOTH. There may be a single driver out of the kit that doesn’t see as much duty, but if you’re serious about the Tekno kit, and Sworkz RTR, it’s a no brainer.

You are correct. I have very few tools (hammer , wrenches , a couple screwdrivers , drill and duct tape 😃). I’m not mechanically inclined in the least. But I try. I’m a cop and wrestling coach so I’m able to work with my hands in different ways.
Here’s my cart. Good?

I think I might get those black/gray Protek drivers you mentioned as well. Should I still get the MIP’s I have in my cart pictured above?

I’d personally forget the 6-in-1.. Not useful in an RC platform, and very likely made from Chinesium-so you’ll be hell on your nuts.. The reason I say the things I do regarding tool selection is due to the amount of routine maintenance, and wrenching that takes place in surface RC. The better your tools, the longer your fasteners will last. I’ve seen brand new kits assembled with brand new subpar tools, and 90% of the fasteners are already garbage. BEFORE any maintenance has even taken place.. 😅🤷🏻‍♂️

Gotcha . Should I still get the MIP’s as well as the Protek’s?

If you’re thinking about those times when you need two of the same driver during the same operation (smart), go with a cheaper hobby grade kit, or couple key driver sizes from say, Dynamite, or OFNA, etc. over the 6-in-1.

That would be a seriously legit set of tools. That said; but not requiiiiiiiiired… Personally I use the Protek Ultralite hex, and nut drivers, MIP ball drivers, MIP speed bits, and I have a couple sets of old OFNA hex drivers for those situations when I need multiples.. I’ve been wrenching seriously for almost 40yrs, and for a living for 30, so there’s no shortage of proper tools around Littlemotor…😅🤷🏻‍♂️

I use Milwaukee m12 driver, and small impact, but I wouldn’t recommend those for most folks. You’ve gotta have tremendous finesse/muscle memory-as they’re waaaaaay more than enough to snap about any grade 12.9 fastener I run lol..

Haha , yes , you seem like you’d have every tool known to man. A good person to know 😃 So I’ll ditch the multi-nut driver. And I’m wondering if I should get those black/gray Protek drivers in place of the MIP’s for now. If I don’t need both right now then I’ll get one set or the other. Just not sure which one to go with for now.

Can’t go wrong with either imo.. I’ve had some pretty crazy tools over the years.. I do like the weird stuff-but only if it’s useful.. Those kiwi pliers I suggested for ya-those are absolutely killer. The first set I got (3 total) from Blue Point off the Snap-On truck.. They’re tough to find.. and not cheap lol.. The EZRED’s are fairly decent quality though imo. -and don’t seem to get lost so easily..😎

I’d likely lean toward the Ultra Light’s as they’re longer, and I do like the handles better..

Ok so these Protek’s? And they’ll be good for my MT10?

I agree. No 6 way.
Pliers look ok but I don't know the brand.
I also own the speed tip set from MIP so I speak from that side.
I think the only complaint I've heard about MIP is that they are expensive.

On the locktite... I use the blue stuff also.
I have liquid and a stick.
Liquid is usefull for getting a tapped part (like a frame rail) good coverage. It can and does make a mess for me but I also just use the tip on the bottle. No fancy applicator tips or anything so I blame the mess t least 50% me. 🤣

Another thing to keep in mind is that your current trucks should ALL have a set of hex that you can use for the few times that you'll need 2 same size allen keys.
You can always buy more if you're finding a regular job requires another set.
The tools that come with the kits aren't good, hard to use sometimes, but will get a job done too.

I’m gonna find the Kiwi pliers that were recommended by Littlemotor.

Yessir. You may not use the 3mm with the 1/10 stuff-I’m not sure off the top of my head… The tips are also replaceable, and if you DO wear one out, you can cut or grind it down for another run prior to buying a new tip. Even if the 3mm doesn’t see much use on the 1/10-at $15~ per driver as singles-it’s basically free, and will get use on the 1/8 stuff depending on chassis brand.

I’m gonna find the Kiwi pliers that were recommended by Littlemotor.
I believe Amazon has them brother. 🤘

Here ya go @PainKiller , $4.50 cheaper.. Seen a lot of this with Amazon as of late.. watch ‘em..🙄

Niiice. Thanks. I’m gonna have to get an RC tool box for all my new stuff 😃

I think the protek stuff you have picked out looks good too. I know the brand well enough to feel good trying the tools. 👍🏻
Sweet. Protek and MIP seem like the go-to for drivers.
