I'm just full of questions tonight, and since you guys are the relative crawler authorities bear with me.

where and how do you wire a HH handwound motor? do you solder the esc right to the motor or do you use connectors? what connectors are best for wiring a motor??

I've always heard deans are the best. you would solder leads on the motor and put the deans plug on the end. i dont know if you need caps for those motors.

i have mine soldered at the motor then you could use butt splices if you want to go from the motor wires to esc wires....thats not what I'm using i just can't think of what mine are called, they are round and slide together really snug and tight lol....not much of an answer but you might know what they are called. deans would work too if you have some of those laying around.

well, here is what I've got. I've got an old ESC that is fried and I was going to scavenge the wires off of it. I have some deans connectors. and I have a Sidewinder ESC thats going on my crawler. should I cut the bullet plugs off(i think thats what they are) and solder on deans? and where do I solder on the motor? this is my first foray into electronics other than glowplugs, batteries, and recievers as far as RC goes. I understand what goes were, but my knowledge on how to get it there is whats lacking

Would you be thinking bullet connectors?

It depends really on your ESC. John R Holmes sent my Cobalt 7T Puller with a Deans on it, so I had to wire an adapter from Deans to Corallys to plug it into my Sidewinder (I don't rewire stuff that's already got factory fitted plugs and is under warranty, especially if they are gold plated Castle bullet sockets!).

Either good quality bullets or Deans, and some HEAVY wire would be my best suggestion.

Direct solder is the best way, but I use E-Flight 3.5 mm bullets or Venom 4 mm bullets on everything. I do it just to make it cleaner looking.

BULLETS!!!! lol, there you go, i couldnt for the life of me remember what they were called.

I direct solder all my motors, there is the least amount of resistance that way and no connectors to deal with and with a hot iron it only takes a second to make the connection, if you don't want to do that then go with deans plugs that is going to offer next least amount of resistance, if its a brushed motor which I think it is then more then likely already has compacitors installed.

The Holmes Hobbies motors have the capacitors installed and are marked positive and negative. I use Deans connectors or Bullet connectors so that I can pull the ESC out of my crawler and swap it into another rig if I need to. With all my crawlers and four mamba max ESC's, which leaves me 2 or 3 crawlers short, I move my stuff around a pretty good bit. The Deans or Bullet connectors will be fine.

If you were racing with a low turn motor I would say direct solder, but with adequate wires and connectors, you will not have an issue with resistance impairing performance on that crawler motor.
