So whats the deal with this trend I'm seeing where everyone is putting a ton of zip ties around the top fin of their cooling head?

I mean, I understand why someone would do it to their T-Maxx...to keep the plastic ring on which in turn keeps the wire to the glow plug from fraying/stripping.

But why else? Is it just a kewl new look? Does it serve some other purpose?

That's such a female pee pee thing to do..."I don't wanna scratch the cooling head...let's put some zip ties on it!" Scratches give the engine character...damnit!...you should see my novarossi!

kwong2001: Maybe you should be a bit more considerate to other people. You asked the question then want to label the people who use the method for the reason they do as "female pee pee". So your Nova is scratched / banged up. Who cares, maybe other want to protect the investment they made more so than you do. Does that make them or you wrong? No, just different viewpoints. Anyway, Zip Ties are cool! :jet:

Jamie, you can see how the zips are put on in my gallery. The top view of the truck shows them pretty well.

I put 'em on so that I'll chew up my fingers when I'm cranking. But then again, the hyper only take 2 or 3 pulls and the 21bb has a roto start......

I use 'em and the head still gets banged up. If it's the first run of the day while you're tuning with the body off, one good flip on the pavement will eat the zipties right off. (Not all at once, of course.)

I learned a hard lesson on my Mugen on road mill. Was going WOT (about 45mph) and I didnt have the body on, nor did I have the zip ties. The car went airborne and flipped upside-down and proceeded to slide well over 50 feet. The end result was bad. Most of one side of the top fin set was ground almost to the point of being gone.

Now I dont know how zip ties effect cooling properties (nothing I've noticed) BUT, less cooling head = less cooling. A few cents can save you temp for certain.

Mugen make some nice buttons for the head which I now have in place. A lot tougher than zip ties. Too bad all manufacturers didnt make them.

Kwong - I'm sorry to say it but that was by far one of the STUPIDEST comments you have ever made. Just thought I would share that with you.

i learned my lesson o the hard side too, i was running my car when i first got it, and was flying in my neighborhood, went off my drive way, and it bottomed out then launched up, skidded on the head for quite aways, and it broke off 2 fins, but that is all that that damaged, lucky me, but my new head costed 45$. so i take it slow until i find something cool to put on it. ZIP TIES ARE COOL! but the manufacturers should make something for each head....

Zip ties will also lessen the liklihood of having your glow plug wire chewed in half in a rollover. (If your vehicle uses one.)

I just spent about $400 bucks on installing the Sirio .18 in my old school T-Maxx. You're friggin right I'm gonna use zip ties to protect my investment! Protection aside, it can add more color to your vehicle. I've got neon orange on mine, and it looks spectacular with my color scheme. Small price for huge insurance.

except when it brakes a fin tuff guy.

We would love to see it, but I understand that someone else OWNs it.

Next time you want to help us out, just insert the foot in your mouth and save us the trouble Kwong.

A very inexpensive bit of protection. This is not kevlar body armor we are talking about, but an effective way to give the cooling head some protection during those times when you roll your RC without its lid on.

I use zip ties on all my vehicles. It protects the head fairlly well and I haven't noticed any change in temps either. Also, it adds a little more color if you're into matching it with other components of the vehicle.

No offence fellas but zip ties on your head is alittle tacky,if you dont want to put scratches on your head, drive with the body on???
