I would like to know what vehicle you run with what body that makes it so your head is not exposed? On my 2 buggies and my T-maxx all stick out and can be damaged if you hit something at the right angle. I personally dont mind a few scratches it gives it character and actually shows people you use it. I dont know why this would be an issue. If you want to use them, if you dont then don't and be done with it.

No offence fellas but zip ties on your head is alittle tacky,if you dont want to put scratches on your head, drive with the body on???

In a world where bashing is the priority, "tacky" as you put it helps. Besides this is not a fashion contest. Just out of curiousity, if protecting the head with a couple of zip ties is tacky...then why is it that some engine manufacturers (TRAXXAS 2.5) have a "skid" plate for the head? Why because even with the body on, the head can still be exposed to some abuse. Aside from dumping a roll cage onto the vehicle, a couple of zip ties is a cheap way to give some minor protection.

And Blazer, try any SUV style (Suburban, Durango, Hummer wagon, etc.) body and the head (unless it is freaking huge) probably will not protrude through the body...at least I haven't seen any that do.

ok look I run the proline silverado crew cab body on my MAXX,and if youll look in the gallery youll see my head petrudes very little if any. when you remove your body it sits on these post, well rumor has it they are adjustable? so if I flip upside down and skid all thats gonna suffer is my body, and if I dont land a jump right or something and it has enough impact to smush the body, I highly doubt a flimsy zip tie is going to protect my head??????:stupid:

In defense of not putting zip ties on my cooling head. I could really give less than a crap (I hope one of the Traxxas mods does not ban me for that word) about scratches on my head. That's really the least of my worries. After a hard landing on the top of my savage or t-maxx I would be better worried about a cracked head or something more severe.

Define smooshed. I think Pirata can vouch for the shape my bashing body is in, and smooshed is the least of its problems. I have had plenty of bad landings, rollovers, skids, and flips that put my truck in an other than feet on the ground configuration. I have one maybe two scratches on the head, but have eaten up quite a few zipties in the process. The head...still the stock Fantom head that came with the engine...And you can look in my gallery to see the one I speak of...it is the Silver E-Maxx body riding around on a T-Maxx.

Anyway, this is going nowhere fast. I think that someone here put it best...if you don't like the idea, no one here is twisting your arm and making you use it. Someone asked the question why, and several people have answered. Just because your own experience does not justify using them, does not mean that others do not have experiences that do. So take a small bit of advice, if you like the idea use it, if not...then do not. It's that simple.

Ok, lets review, breaking stuff is common, not cool. I say do whatever it takes to protect your rig.

Kwong, not having zip ties on your cooling head, doesn't make you tuff, sorry dude.

Oh yeah, I have checked with my wife and my daughter ( fashion moguls) and they have concluded that zip ties are not tacky this season.

I was looking at the head on my savage (never used zip ties) and few really few scratches on the head itself but a noticable bend in the head sink portion. I look at my t-maxx (I used zip ties) and plenty of scratches and also dings and dents in the heat sink. Is this saying that you'll get fewer scratches with zip ties, not really just a matter that they only offer limited protection to your head.

Dude you need to lean it up a tad and drive it like you stole it. I'm running the bronco body and I beat the piss out of it. So far I have trashed about 6 inches of fuel line (on the rim of the top fin) and around 4 zips. There's only 1 scratch on the top fin. The poop works. If you think it's tacky, so be it, and so what. If you don't drive on the edge, then you probably don't need the protection anyway, or like the fuk'd up look of a beat up head.

i personally believe they are some type of fashion statement, some are praiseing them claiming excelent head protection,i just dont see it, and on my rides if it dont need it to go fast you wont find it!!!:violin:

So you bought a T-Maxx (old style) for speed? That clears everything right up.

So when are you going to stop chasing those air leaks and get a real engine...because that TRX Pro .15 is anything but fast.

 BRAVO!

The best debate yet!

The Almighty Zip Tie Owns You! Feel the force as it eats away at your soul! (and your cooling head if you dont use them!)

Mugen made some really cool 'buttons' for my mill. Just wished I had them BEFORE I took a flip at 50mph!!!! ZipTies would have saved the head too!

ya i went out and purchased one right after the new T-MAXX came out,DUMBASS when i bought my MAXX thats all there was no savage no 2.5's??? you dont think before you type do you:stupid:

one word, upgrade. Uh, just because zipties can be baught at Lowes doesn't mean that they are not legitimate upgrades.

Also, it's not a good idea to call an admin a dumbass. IMO.

dont dog my ride man it was the poop when i bought it new,its hard to keep up with technology these days???

And apparently neither do you...

Why buy an MT if you are interested in things that go fast? MTs are not freaking rockets...

BTW I happen to own an old style T-Maxx (bought it nearly two years ago). One of the first things I did was drop a better engine in it. Why? So I wouldn't have to waste people's time asking questions about air leaks nearly a year after the old style T-Maxx was retired.

We can go around and around on this all night long...just drop it.
