actually a septic line wouldnt have hurt the wildlife the people or the enviroment nowhere nearly as bad, would smell like azz though, but I bet that oil didnt have a pleasent aroma either.

in my last job, i buried telephone lines for Ameritech.

i have seen some REALLY bad miss dig locates, hit a few home gas lines before we started to double check almost all locates....but i can't believe there wasn't a rep from the pipeline there?

when we had to cross a cross country pipeline we had them so far up our ass's it qualified as a Colonoscopy, and we only buried 18" deep

i worked as a locator, gas and elec. and theres alot more dirty contractors out there then bad locates. there is always human error on both ends some times. good thing no one got hurt

You know, I doubt that. Ever stop to REALLY think what gets flushed these days? At least here they know what they are trying to clean-up!

Plus side, though. That track hoe will NEVER need lubricated, ever again!

retarded pilot: in my experince i have had a water contractor hit our lines then quick put down his own paint before we showed up. To bad i had pictures. I work for alot of good contractors, most of our phone and fiber contractors are great to work for as well as our city contractors, but we do have some who do not hand dig our lines before they cross or just dont care for that matter. i do not want to name names if there not here to defend themselves.

As far as damage goes, all the dirt, i.e lawn and landscaping, has to be removed to a depth of 12 inches, all the trees that were covered are being chainsawed, any wooden fences are being replaced and any houses that were caught in the spray have to be stripped on the outside and new siding.
Apparently because the oil was warm at the time the oil mist went further than the the actual spray did, if there is a slight black spot on anything around the oil spill, it needs to be cleaned and or removed.
It's looking more and more like the blame will reside with the pipe line company, Kinder Morgan, they admitted that they knew where the pipe line was or was not, but a simple $1000 dollar test with a small ground penetrating X-ray machine could have saved them millions!

where as terds, dead goldfish and tampons would have washed off,the trees and soil would have been fertilized? vs?

With all the diggin that goes on, there's bound to be a mistake like this.
Sucks about the oil! Wish it was water or something at least..

Oh yeah, you're so right...nothing says "nature" like a used tampon plastered to your house or some 17 year old's used Trojan hanging from your car antenna!

If human fecal matter is supposed to be such a good fertilizer, then why isn't it being processed and sold?

Granted, oil isn't something fun to deal with in a spill or pipe cut such as this, but my theory is, the contents of a septic tank can be just as toxic as an oil spill.
