i just broke in my axial motor and trying to tune it but as soon as do motor is not too lots of blue smoke and going straight very slow but as i turn it leans out help me please!:\ i have a revo 3.3 fully upgraded havent been able to even have fun i buy a glow plug almost two a tank very expencive

When you burn out a plug, what does the bottom of the plug look like? Charred black, or clean?

What fuel and plugs are you using? What pipe are you using?
i have broke in about 4 different Axial .28's. All of them had the HSN set way too rich from the factory.

Yup, I reset the needles before it even went in the truck. It was a little rich (about 1/3rd of a turn) from the factory. I also verified all areas were sealed, etc.

I'm using odonell 20% when plug goes its got fuel on the bottom ... no chard color ...and it distorts the element in the plug sometimes.....I'm using a trinity pipe the hi flow one for the big block it what they say ....:|I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking its the mill...i have researched this issue and have not found a res yet... i also leaned the needles out as well... my temp gets to about 210 - 220 lil more lil less .... I'm not over heating thats for sure....

can it be the fuel lines being shorter than normal? should i make the feed line longer?... can anyone who has a axial .28 spec 1 share the needle settings that they are using so i can have a starting point right now i went back to fact setting so i can start of againg fresh. i have been told not to make heavy adjustment on the hsn cause axial motors use a 1 12 hour rotation in stead of a 1/8.. is this true maybe I'm leaning it too much ?

and i also seal it with rtv sealant for my carb needles and back plate... imma go out here right now and test out this new fuel line see if i get any luck..

Axials tune like every other engine out there. Run it where it performs. Leave the temp gun in the pit box. Sounds like the compression still may be a little tight, and if you rev it too high too soon it causes the plug to compress. To be honest with you, I'd say you got a lemon. Axial does not care about there customers unless there is a huge obvious flaw on there part. I have one engine of their's left and I'll never buy another one.
Fuel line needs to be lengthened. 8" for the fuel minimum, 4-6" for the pressure line.

Wait, what? What does the length of fuel line have to do with engine tuning/performance? Fuel line diameter constricting or allowing too much fuel sure... but just length?

If your plug is getting knocked around, you're definitely rich somewhere. Try leaning the low needle about 1/8th of a turn. Keep your high needle as close to factory as possible for those first few tanks.

If your temp is around 200, your engine is just fine. Only panic if your temp shoots WAY over 200 and the motor acts insane at idle.

I have the same motor, and it broke in just fine.

Failing that, check your air filter. If it's restrictive in any way, that will cause it to draw too much fuel.

OK i found out why the motor is the way it is and this is it... it sucks big donkey balls fyi... dont buy axial .... peice of junk... i replaced the piston before cause the piston broke apart .. deterorated... replaced it... broke it in again both times by factory break in and guess what the new piston did the same exact thing i took the mill apart again and inspected it huge chunk of piston missing i called axial emailed them they never responded to me at all.... very pissed i took the motor back to the place i bought it and they said axial has been a problem with them on other occasions... owner of the store took it back and i got the wasp .28 same price i got the axial... i havent been able to get back on the road yet because of work and maybe ill have better luck with this motor.... more rev and about the same in hp.... I'm still not a happy camper ... cause i spent money on trying to fix a freak paper weight buying pull starters and freaking roto starts.. also piston and sleeve extra money wasted .... ,,!,, axial

make sure those plugs arent hot you need cold med. if its hot that be part of the reason

No, Axial's are cheap mass produced engines with poor customer service. PERIOD
I hope the Wasp works out better for you. Make sure the exhaust seals up nicely at the header. I have heard of issues with those engines. That was a long time ago though, I'm sure Orion remedied the problem. They actually stand behind their products.
Number one cause of an engine breaking a piston or rod during break-in is an excessively rich HSN.

my needle setings were right not to rich not to lean i been doing this for years and the rod didnt break it was the bottom of the piston where oneside is longer to cover exhaust as it combusts started to break apart. must have been a manufact issue .... i used an o.s. #8 wich is a cold or med plug ... i did it by the book... nothing more or less... infact i had to do it twice no way that two times that pyle they sold me wasn't a good motor.. maybe the .28 rr would have been better ... but axial is junk .. cust service goes to show you the pride they take in thier work I'm on stating what i been through. not a good exper.:(

Sounds like it had too much pinch then. I had a STS .30 do the same. 3 gallons of fuel at 220-260F and it refuesed to break in the piston/sleeve. Finally it cracked the piston just like your Axial did. I feel your pain bud.

thanks guys for the help ... its running great at that .... i got another issue now i dont know why my traxxas tq3 is having issues with range i know its not the best remote but it worked fine till now its like i get 50 feet and it wants to stick WOT if its not one thing its another ... what does the white set screw on the back of the remote do?

Range issues are due to poor battery condition, a short in a wire, a bad antenna or too short of an antenna, or a loose/bad crystal. The last thing could be environmental interference.
