Hi,
I was about to get a DX3 for my Slash and MGT, but the RXs are more than half the price of a TX AND RX, what is up with that? Is there some reason they are so expensive? Can I get Knock-off brands that will work?
Thanks,

To answer your question "Why are 2.4Ghz receivers so expensive?"

They are more expensive, because simply, they are better than a standard receiver that uses a crystal. They generate it's own frequency. That's why the cost is greater.

If your lucky, you can pick up a Losi MRX-3000 2.4ghz receiver off of ebay for around $40-$50.

They will work with Spektrum 2.4ghz transmitters.

Or you can watch the for sale forum here and pick up a used sr3000 rx for cheap......lol

Will the HK 2.4 surface RXs (that are $6) work with the DX3?

Nope. All the different radio brands that use 2.4 technology have all their own propriatary technology so you can't mix and match diff. brands of tx and rx like you could with the old am and fm radios that use crystals.

Most kits are now including 2.4ghz, as the demand for the newer technology drops so will the price. It's a hobby though, so you aren't going to find them dirt cheap in the next few years, maybe when the next big thing comes along?

I've seen some stuff coming from overseas that was cheap in price and quality, but I use them in my foam airplanes without any problems.

keep looking for the losi ones.. I seen about 8 of them @ a hobby shop in Greenbay selling for only 45.00 NIB.. The owner said it the customer found out it was cheaper to buy that then the regular spekys to bind with..keep checking with horizon, and others that carry speky brands to see if they just have the losi rx's cause they will always be ALOT less then the regular Speky ones..losi owns speky..

here is a couple losi ones for you, but most are back ordered..

apart from sticker Losi RXs are same as SR3000 for the older lot with
grey case, SR300 for the newer ones with darker case & needing bind plug

Losi & Spektrum are both owned by Horizon Hobby

They are more expensive mainly because it has it's own processor on the board so that will drive up the cost. They are quite complex so it comes with a price.
