This is my buddy Barney. He's a 40" Arizona gopher snake that a friend found crossing a busy street In Scottsdale.

I gave it a mouse a week ago, but he just hissed at it. His eyes got cloudy the next day, which normally means its about to shed. But after 5 days it still hadnt shed, and they just seemed to be hanging out together. Then Sunday the mouse was gone and his eyes were clear, but there was no old skin. Do snakes shed just their eye covers?

Yeah, I saw the photo. My theory is that the mouse ate the shedded skin, then ..... well you know

OK, Image station wont let you hot link - they suck. Does anyone know of a free photo host site that lets you link? I don't want to clog my rcnt gallery with dumb stuff like this.

Yeah but I had to put the pics in my rcnt gallery. Anyone know of a good photo host?

Snakes eyes cloud over when they are about to shed. Can they only shed their eye covers? It is possible. More than likely the snake needed to shed and came out of it. If that tank in the picture is his home, then he needs some water. A water bowl in the tank is a must. With that, he will be able to moisten up when going into a shed and complete it much more easily.

Yeah Sky it has a water dish and an Easy-mac box to hide in, I took that out for the pic.

well....if that thing were in my house.....well.....that thing wouldn't be in my house! I have snakes they are slimy.... :puke:....those things aren't for me! geeerrrooooosssseeee!!!!

Scott makes a good point. I put a couple of photos in my RCNT gallery to link to a buy/sell/trade thread. How do you get photos off of your gallery??

Thanks,
Mr T

Then who knows. Some snakes do eat their shed if they are hungry. Also, they tend to get really hungry right after a shed. Putting those together, Barney might just have been hungry enough to have dead skin as an appetizer and eat the mouse as the main course.

The same way you would from another location. Get the page with the image on your browser. Right click the image. Select properties. Highlight and copy the link. Then place said link between image tags and viola.

It isn't a good idea to leave the mouse in the cage with the snake like that. The mouse may actually take a few bites out of the snake. If the snake is not interested in the mouse right away, you should take it out and try again later untill the snake is interested.

one of the guys on here breeds them and know alot about them I'm not sure what kind of snakes he has

i think it was el pirata his snakes decided to screw right when he was going to move!!!

Thanks wsw, are they OK with non-Ford mustang pics? hb1111, you're right, Ep does have snakes, boas I think.

El Pirata keeps several Columbian Red Tail Boas.

My wife and I have a ton of experience in snakes as well. We used to keep and attempted to breed pythons (I say attempted because the suckers never seemed to get in the mood...)

At any rate, the comment about not leaving the mouse in the tank with the snake is accurate.

Thanks Sky, what I meant to say is that I no longer have a use for the photos. How do I remove/delete them from my gallery, to save space??

Thanks,

Mr T
