Who else is making a gingerbread house?

Nice House sweetdiesel and Lesson did yours turn out?

Still working on it. I've been managing a couple pieces per day the last couple days as time allows. It's coming along rather nicely. I've wasted quite a bit of dough trying to get a technique figured out but it's coming along rather nicely now. I have all of the walls baked at this point. We're going to try to pour sugar windows so that'll require a couple test runs. Yesterday I mashed two bags of Tootsie Roll midgees together into one large lump. That'll get rolled and cut for the tudor style wood trim

so yeah.. if you havn't noticed, we watch a lot of Food Network. :)

Wow, sounds great. Even making the windows!
We will need some finished pictures for sure.

That is awesome guys, I was just about to say this thread was useless w/o pics then I scrolled down... I love the princess dress while making a ginger bread house, very important :D

This is the CLASSIC pic. Says it all. :D

Nice house Dom, you're right, as long as you have fun with the kidos, doesn't matter what it looks like!

Leave it to Lessen to build a 'masterpiece' of a house. :hehe:
When you get that thing done, it's going to be sweet........literally. That's some serious thought and creativity being put into a ginger bread house. I would have to put it under a glass case once I was done. Can't wait to see the finished product, nice work man!!

Can't beleive I am just reading this post. Nice work guys!! I don't have the talent or patience for that sort of work. The kit... may work, but my wife and I tried to make one from scatch last year and it was just a mess. The gingerbread would not cook all the way through and the walls were so heavy they didn't want to hold up. We ended up getting it built... then the cats got a hold of it while we were at work! LOL

Great work guys! Cute family you have there Dom! Lesson... you are going to be able to sell that house of yours for at least half a million once it is complete. Knowing you... I would not be surprised if you had electricity and Satelite TV planned for it. Nice work indeed!

"I love it in the bedroom. I love it on the couch. And maybe it’s trite, but I love it on the dining room table.
Let me be perfectly honest. When it comes to women, I’m only after 1 thing. Food.
But when I buy you a gift, it’s gonna be SEXY. It’s gonna be CROTCHLESS. It’s gonna be an APRON."

That will put you in a tent in the back yard for a long, long time, but DAMN, that's funny. :hehe:

Better late than never

As some of you may know my PC was acting up around the holidays so I was unable to post the finished project. Here it is...

Damn Josh you did a great job on your build. Is that gold leaf for the windows?

You know this means next Christmas we will have a scratch built gingerbread house build off, right? :hehe:

Thanks fellas.

Dom- The windows are poured sugar (sugar, light corn syrup and water boiled to 300*F). The corn syrup gives it the yellowish color. The tudor style "wood" trim is Tootsie Roll if you were wondering. That was my wife's idea, she's a genious (and addicted to Food Network :)

I'm all about a build off next year. This was a lot of fun and very satisfying for myself. I wanted to do more detail but time was not on my side this year. I literally finished it 10 minutes AFTER the family arrived.

That thing looks good enough to eat! Did it taste as good as it looked?

Well, some of the nonperials were :) I ran out of the smaller cheap nonperials. On Christmas Eve I was finishing it up and my wife had to go to like 4 different places looking for them. She finally ended up at Malley's although they were a bit larger. I don't know if you guys know of Malley's Chocolate.. it's a staple here in Cleveland. It's good stuff. We still get randoms wiffs of chocolate when we are sitting around the coffee table watching t.v. Needless to say it looks like it needs a new roof. I'll probably ditch it here in the next couple days.

I wonder how it will hold up to that marshmallow gun...?...?...

Next Thanksgiving if either of us can remember, we will start a GBH build-off. I'll try to get some prizes together for whomever can construct the nicest digs. Obviously you've set the bar quite high last year so I expect to see some houses worthy of MTV cribs for this year. :D
