Associated is by far a more reliable brand

associated RC18 series.
I can only speak for the associated Rc18, but I absolutely love mine (RC18MT). I got it recently and it really takes a beating! Had a problem with my ESC and Associated's warranty department fixed me up WITHIN the week! Gotta love that. I would highly recommend one.
As for whether you want to go buggy, truck, or monster truck its really up to personal preference. Not too big of deal either as each can be reconfigured to suit your needs.
