Dear Forum
My Traxxas rustler 4x4 VXLMotor is dead.
No possibility to turn it also by hand.
I should I buy the original velineon motor again or is there a (cheaper or more robust) option?
Thanks
Juergen

I'm new and didnt try it but the hobbywing quickrun wp 10bl120 with the 3652sl motor looks like a cheap good combo.

Hobbywing 10BL120 G2 (WP) - on the cheaper side, sensorless

Hobbywing Max10 G2 80A (WP) - more pricey, sensored.

Id get the esc/motor combos and just keep the vxl esc as a spare. But if you really want to keep using the stock esc, id just get a hobbywing 3652 SL motor but you would need to make or get 3.5mm to 4mm bullet adapters cause if I am right the vxl uses 3.5mm bullets on the esc side. (Linked the 3250kv option as it would be the best for 2 and 3s) you can get the 3660 motor which is longer and has a 5mm shaft but not sure if it will fit in a rusty. If it does, id opt for the 3660 instead of the 3652 since the 3660 is a bit longer, it will have more torque.

Wow, thanks 🙏
Why world you get the esc combo instead of using the original Traxxas?
I guess price for motor only is about the same as for hobby combo, so what advantage would it be?

RTR electronics aren't the best. Traxxas doesn't spec their elections so we dont know what their escs can handle if you want to put a non Traxxas motor on a Traxxas esc. Also vxls like to overheat and I seen a few catch fire. And there is 0 programmability.

Advantage of the hobbywing combo. Well, you can actually tune the esc with a program card. You have multiple motor options. And it's cheaper than overpriced Traxxas. Been running hobbywing stuff in my cars for 2 years now and I like them. Same with other brands like spektrum and castle. But they are a little bit more pricey.

Interesting!
Do you know if I set in my VXL the hobbywing esc plus Motor, if it still works with my Traxxas radio control incl. The „lane Assistent“?

Hi,
I just want to let you know current state:
I recognized the rustler VXL motor is able to be repaired!
I said to myself: let’s try first if the cheap motor repair kit TRX3352R could make it run again.
And now the Velineon motor is working again!
Both bearing were fully scrap, a lot of dirt inside, also.
I had really problems to get the damaged bearings out the motor, so I had to use a lot of force. And some try with heating, cooling, screw driver, hammer, and so on.
I wanted to give up, but I thought, ok, I buy a new motor, so I can do it more rough, so
In the end I got it out.
I am not sure how long it will run now with the two new bearings of the repair kit.
But for now it works, I’ll post here when the motor is dead again.
Rgds
Jürgen
