Hey guys,

Finally finishing my B44 build and I am having a difficult time finding a place to mount the Rx. I had to mount the speedo in a different location because the GTB is too tall to fit in the recommended area. So I had to mount it where the Rx would normally go. I am running spektrum so if I mounted the Rx where the speedo would go, it would fit... but the antenna is not long enough to fit in the antenna tube hole. If I mount the Rx on the top deck the body doesn't fit right. Any suggestions guys? Thanks

Tom

Pic of your chassis along with the stuff to be mounted would be helpful.

how long is your antena? is it realy that far from the antena tube that you can't safely run your antena over to the tube from where the receiver is placed in the car?

I dont understand why its too tall. I have the speedie mounted right in front of the motor, although I had to shorten the motor wires. It gets plenty of air through the front suspension. I have the SR3100 mounted right next to the antenna post behind the steering servo. The problem was the capacitor, which looks out of place just stuck on the top plate, but it works. Great car by the way...

Tom - Don't use the antenna tube hole. Swap those two components like you said. IMO, with a spread spektrum radio you really don't need to be quite so concerned about getting the antenna wire up. Just coil that wire up some to keep it out of the way. I think it'll be just fine like that. As long as you have a few inches of antenna wire outside of the Rx case you should be good.

Here's a quick shot of my Spektrum antenna on my TMaxx. I have not noticed any reception of latency issues compared to using an antenna tube.

Sorry for the lateness in my reply. Had a really busy weekend moving old furniture out, and new furniture in. Did have any time for the net, or working on the RC's.

Anywho... I will post a pic of my chassis and gear tonight.

Lesson, the only problem I have is that with a B44, there is no radio box. Just open chassis.

Hopefully the picture will help. Thanks again guys.

Update with Pics

Here are a few Pics of my chassis. Sorry for the delay guys.

Here is what I would do.

Mount the RX behind the motor. Drill a hole in the chassis in a good location to use this antenna mount.

I would also just thread the antenna wire through the mount without poking through the body.

You should also shorten your motor wires to save weight.

Sounds good my friend. Thank you for the advice. This is by far the tightest chassis I have worked with, and this includes my 18T.
Just to clarify, would I drill into the bottom of the chassis or the top deck?

Is there anything special about drilling through carbon fiber? Thanks again.

Top deck.

I use a Dremel tool with a sharp bit for drilling carbon fiber.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and ordered that part from A Main. I don't race again for a couple of weeks so I should have time to perform the install. Well that is if my daughter alows me to install. LOL Hey Rob, and Lessen... is there anything special I should wrap the antenna lead up in, or should I just leave it loose? Thanks.

Tom

If there is no chance of the wire getting caught in the gear, you can just let it dangle.

Otherwise you can use a short piece of antenna tube and using some heat, bend it to suit so it can stay under the body.

This is what I did on my GorillaMaxx and ERevo. On myy TC4 and RC18T I just let the wire dangle.

Ok... cool. With the B44 being shaft drive, and the spur and pinion are both open and exposed I think I will use a short piece of tube and heat it. I was also thinking of maybe using some fuel tubing... maybe? Sorry to ask so many stupid questions... Mounting electronics is sometimes a delicate operation that I am still working on perfecting. Thank you again my friend.

Tom

Yeah, I just coil it up and let it dangle. All of my rigs are like that.

You don't worry about it getting caught up in the gears? The antenna is not that long, but with the B44 being shaft drive and with the spur and pinion exposed and mid chassis, I was a bit worried. Sounds like you guys are confident it will not go anywhere though. I will give it a try.

Tom

Man you've been fooling around with this anenna wire since the 23rd! I vote that you should just duct tape the receiver onto the wing, and let the antenna dangle like a tail. It will be kinda like battle bots, because the other guys will be trying to catch you and cause interference with your "tail". Sounds like a good time to be had by all!
