Where to Get A Replacement Pull Start for .28?

The Wasp 28 pullstart has 4 screw holes on it. If they say the rotostart will fit on the new Savage k4.6 engine, then that means the crankshaft diameter is the same as the Savage 25 engine. So that means that the Wasp pullstart should fit just fine on there.

arawak420, check your PM.

got the pull start today digi. thanks. it's totally different than the savage 4.6 pull start though. for one there is no one bearing on the savage just a shaft. the cord was to thick on the wasp pull so i had to find some nylon cord that i had here the same diameter as the savage pull cord. the cord i have is PINK(my favorite color), oh so nice.i even have about an extra 4" inches of cord now. i had to take the spring out and tweak it some to fit the slot assembly of the savage. took me some time but i got the spring to work out for me, and I'm going to see what happens when the rain stops.

my towers and shocks should be here by the end of this week and the rain is suppose to stop as well. our local ski resort here in southern cali has gotten 6-9 feet of snow in 4-5 days. it's been a mess.

Glad to see that you got it all hooked up. I was just curious as to why you tore it all apart and pieced it together with your old pullstart. From the previous threads, it seems like the wasp pullstart, should have simply bolted on and matched up with no problems.

Well let us know how it goes once the rain stops.

Maybe he got confused because the WASP one way bearing looks larger than the stock one way. They both have the same inner diameter though so it should have just bolted on.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking.

Yeah, thats what happend. My Wasp pull start fit on my S-25, which is the same as the K4.6. Well, at least he got it working.

it is totally different. the wasp ahs a one way bearing the k4.6 doesn't. at least not in the pull start assembly. the savage pull start has a shaft and a hex shaped shaft on it that is permanently fixed to the shaft.the hex diameter of the one way bearing housing is bigger than the hex on the shaft of the savage pull start. now the plastic assembly that bolts to the motor is the same and lined up perfectly, but the insides are comeplete opposite/different of each other.

Ah, so the new K4.6 has an internal one way bearing, not an outer one way bearing. My Collari has the same.

yes it has the internal one-way. the fixed shaft comes out of the pull start and into the motor. well the spring doesn't work. another failed attempt. i dont know what to do know. will the roto start work or not.

Do you have a rotostart backplate to see if it will fit? I have a spare one you can borrow to test it. If the hex on the end of the fixed shaft is the same size (outer dimensions) as the one way bearing it should fit.

i dont have backplate for roto start.the hex on the fixed shaft is 7/16th. I'm not sure what size this is in mm. the website says roto start compatible.

I can send you as stock one way bearing, if the hex is the same size you should be good to go with the rotostart, unless you can go to a LHS and see if it will fit.

The hex housing of the WASP pullstart is larger than a stock pullstart. If the k46 hex is the same size as a stock one way bearing, then a stock pullstart or rotostart will fit with no outer one way bearing needed.

Since there isn't a one-way on the K46, what does the pull start attach to? Is there still a starting shaft sticking out the back of the crankcase?

If the stock pullstart or rotostart fits on the K46, then the wasp should have fit too. All three (S-25 pullstart, S-25 rotostart, and wasp pullstart) all have:

---the same one-way inner diameter (which attaches to the starting shaft that sticks out the back of the crankcase)
---the same outer screw alignment for attaching the pullstart / rotostart. So all three should fit. Can someone post some pics? I am now lost......

Yes there is a shaft with a hex end coming out of the backplate. This hex would be similar in size to a one way bearing and that is what is turned by the pullstart. Imagine you took your one way and JB welded it to the starter shaft. That is what you will see on the K46 or any other engine with an internal one way bearings. I'll try to post some pics of my Collari when I get home from work.

Ok, it's all clearing up now, thanks for the explanation. I wonder if you can simply switch the k46 starter shaft out w/ the stock S-25 starter shaft?

Okay, it uses the same system as my XTM 24.7 did. I used the same roto start backplate on the 24.7 as I do on my wasp. That hex that sticks out of the engine is the correct size for the roto start, at least my 24.7's was.

arawak420, next time I take my engine out for some reason I will check it out and let you know what will fit.
