i need a new airfilter for my engine, i have a mp777 sp1 with a vspec engine, whats a good airfilter? :smoke:

I like the Motorsaver filters. I have one for my buggy and unless the track is unusually dusty I can go the whole day without changing filters.

It's a three stage filter - there's the oiled inner foam, and it's incased in a screen. Then there's an outer foam that goes around it.

There's several tubes that hook it up to the engine available. The filter is big, but I was able to use the shorter 90 degree tube to fit it in my Storm.

Check it out. See if your LHS has them so you can get an idea if it will fit in your buggy.

You can see it in my picture here.

i like the motorsavers too. they are really nice filters i just ordered one for my savage

I think the mugen are the best out, motor saver would be right there with it.

I have to agree I use the mugen elbow and inner filters with mugen oil on em, and then run the rb prefilter dry. Works great.

Err...far be it for me to butt in here, but......... i remove mine and replace them with a "K&N" oil breather type filter like for an auto (translation; [USA] Auto = [UK] car).

Works great and fits without any hassles on a 1/8 buggy. its either that or pay £15 for "1/8 scale performance air filter" from a LHS. I know what i prefer. Besides which, the engine breathes a whole lot better and the performance boost is unreal. I find easier tuning, better low speed accelleration coupled to good mid range and top end, with constant revving inbetween. Even the idle is better. The major reward is that the tuning is sooooo much easier.

I understand about tri filtering and all that techy stuff about its better, but the filters i use now, do all that for me without the bulkiness of the original "Factory" type (like the one in cbreaker's image) simply by fitting a little anular foam strip inside the filter with some cyanoacrylate glue. Its fiddly to fit, but the rewards outweigh your few minutes work with the performance you gain.

TTESP...Those k&n style filters are usually frowned upon in the rc community because they don't filter enough. I honestly don't think that any filter is too restrictive and will make any kind of difference unless its dirty.

Yeah thunder cat, those K & N filters will suck dirt right into your 300 dollah mill and leave you pissed off.......the filter needs to be SUPER FINE to stop the dust from getting in yo carb.....

I like the O.S. air filter that came with my RG. It comes with O-rings to secure it instead of zip ties. They work just as good, and you don't need to replace them every time you need to take off your air filter.

i like the bulkiness, makes me feel safe that my engine has a huge airfilter, i my self picked up the motorsaver for my mp777 sp1

depends on personal preferance, i prefer my buggy to look neat and tidy inside and out, hence why everything is either fixed with zip ties or held in place with brackets etc. will get some pics when i get my cam sorted out.

I say function before style. No prefilter on my rig doesn't exist. Ofna filters are what I use, I plan on trying ttr filters from a mgt next.

ofna filters are nice but the one i had didnt come with the outer filter.. i run "motor saver" style filters on all my rc'c exept for my nitro sport.. it has the smaller neck on it.. but it has a two stage filter in it.. the "k&n" filters let dirt in that is big enough to damage your rc. in a 1:1 car the particles arent big enough to hurt but in a rc they are i know you explained that you intalled another foam filter inside the k&n but unless its high density foam like the rc air filters its not stopping the dirt.. and if it is then there isnt any difference in what your running and a motor saver.. you just made it yourself. same foam.. same air flow through foam.. I'm not partial to any certain type as long as its the cylinder style filters and not the little flat disk ones.. but i do like the ones that are held together by a screw better.. i just feel safer

The whole point of putting in the K&N style filter for me is a small power boost, but also because it makes access to the throttle/brake linkage easy on the center diff. It means not having to remove the filter unless its to clean it as well, which i prefer.

try an RBfilter. the oil that comes with it is very good also. give it a try you will like it.
