working on a project with my dad. He restores old gas lamps and sometimes the ornamental pieces get broken. He bought a P2S recently and has been knocking out all the normal accessories that are mandatory when you get a new printer
. I've been trying to teach him some basic fusion 360 features to help him out since his objects are pretty simple things like a box with a hole in the middle, or 8 inches of square tube, and a sphere with a hole in it. Anyways, we were printing out some test objects to verify accuracy and discussing what kind of filament would look best. I suggested some GF/CF filaments to give the ornaments a cool finish and also transparent or translucent filaments to replicate the luster and depth of the glass pieces. I ordered some dark red translucent PETG that should be here today to start some tests with. To further enhance the replacement glass pieces i thought it would be cool to print in translucent/transparent material and have a matching artdeco design on the inside of the square tube. then i will polish the outside of the square tube and hopefully have something interesting and cool.
This is the square glass tube we are replicating
and this is me learning a new feature of fusion 360: Texture extrude. Basically you feed it a black and white image and it extrudes based on the strength of the black/white values. so you could use this in a lot of cool ways. I could see a resin printer being ideal for some objects and details but i think we can make this work.

ove already printed some test objects in pla just to get an idea of how it will work. I;ll post a follow up once i get some more tests completed and polished up.
