Ok guys I need some help with this one. I have decided to get me scale crawler. Considering a Axial scx10. I am pretty much electric and crawler dumb, I have never owned a crawler and only a few electrics. Will the Axial scx10 accept a Lipo in stock form. If not what size battery will get me the longest run time. I am looking at getting the RTR instead of the kit. Also is the jeep and the honcho the same wheelbase. I am not a fan of the jeep body more of a truck guy. My local hobby shop does not have the honcho in stock but they have the jeep ruby. Also I will be looking to put some lift on this rig later and some bigger tires. It will probably see more trail riding then hardcore crawling.

Found this on ebay, thought it was pretty sweet!!View attachment 13111

The only reason I was thinking of going with the Honcho is because of wheelbase thought bodies would be easier to find for the Honcho then the Ruby. I am kinda digging the hardtop jeep now.

they are crap for upgrades. Axial, strc, vanquish are all good. Dont worry about any upgrades yet, in my opinion. When it comes time theres alot better than integy upgrade wise. Integy motors are great for scalers though but not really an upgrade.

Non crimens deal is a good deal too, I saw you were looking at it.

Yah I know. But he has decided to keep it:( As far as the upgrades go I never leave most of my stuff stock for long LOL! I'm not looking to upgrade right off the bat. Mainly just wanting a couple batteries that will give me the longest run times. I plan on selling off some nitro stuff to build me a RC4wd TF2 later after I get some experience with the scaler stuff. Do you know if the TF2 body will fit the ruby or is it a longer wheelbase?

Nice rig man! There's just so much scale crawler stuff out there it's hard to decide. I may swing by my LHS Monday and pick up the Scx10 ruby. I think my bro plans on getting one also. I know he is going with the Jeep for sure. I am so pumped about getting one I feel like a kid on Xmas LOL!!:hehe: My bro and I went out today and mapped out a trail course about 150yards through the woods.

I love the 2-door JK shell. Lots of options for upgrades available. I just added the Proline HID lights on mine.

As far as out-of-the-box mods go, I would build and run it first. I ran mine with a 55t brushed then a 28t brushed motor. I finally settled on a 5600 kV brushless set-up. I would also recommend a radio that has a 3-position 3rd channel switch as my DX3s doesn't have one and I can't really use the winch with it.

Here are some pics of mine before my most recent upgrades:

Those are some nice scalers guys I may be bringing home the Ruby Monday. What battery do you guys recommend just lookin for longest run times.

I run a 3200 mAH 2s hard case LiPo and get over 45 minutes of run time. I've gotten tired of wheeling before I hit the LVC...

I am a total noob with the Lipo thing. I have a crap ton of 7.2 stick packs. I will prob get me a couple 5000mah ones in total I will have about 10 or so. So that should get me going. I will prob upgrade to Lipo when I upgrade the motor and all that good stuff. Do you know if the stock motor will hold up to the 2S Lipo's.

If you get the kit, it doesn't have any electronics. Not sure about the RTR. It doesn't list anything on the Axial site.

Pretty sure the RTR rubi comes with the AE-2 ESC and a 27t Axial motor. The AE-2 will run 2s packs no problem, and can handle 3s if you add an external BEC. And all the ESC parameters can be programmed with a castle link via the PC. They're actually a pretty decent ESC for the money.

Base your rig around what you will be using it for. For my trail runner, I will always go to my tamiya land cruiser. Solid rear axle locked, ifs front locked. Decent center of gravity. Custom 4link in the rear.

For more rocky terrain or that which needs more articulation ill go with the scx10 with tamiya high lift f350 hard body and 1.9 tires.

And if I just wanna go stupid with it on muddy trails, I'll throw on the 2.2 mud tires and go to town.

And just for rocks, its an axial ax10 with no body.

Thanks guys for all the info and help. It looks like I will be getting the Axial RTR ruby for now. Gonna look at the lipo's may have to upgrade to those later depends on the price. Already got an idea kicking around for a body. I just want to get goin with a scaler first, and hope I like it.

Got my SCX10 JEEP RUBY today. The wifes mad but oh well. Left hobby shop spent like $523.00 got me a 2s 5000 Lipo and Hitek charger. I have not yet run the Lipo but I have ran it with my 7.2 stick packs and it is awesome. I hate to say it but looks like some more nitro stuff will be going up on the chopping block for some upgrades later. My son has claimed the SCX10 already LOL heres a pic.:hehe:
