Hay I was just look at some one tread and they say that the cool head is bad on the t-maxx. What is so bad about it? I mean i have seen them and they seem to be fine. Can you just tall me why they are so bad.

Thank Jonathen

The cooling head is ok but the problem is its to small to dissapate a large amount of heat the more heat u get rid of the cooler the engine and if it is cool it will stay in tune better

The 2.5 is a high RPM engine and it burns through quite a bit of fuel due to aggressive porting and timing. This causes quite a bit of heat compaired to a typical .15 engine and the stock head just doesn't shed the heat well enough in most cases. Also, the engine being in a maxx or revo makes it work just that much harder and with all the crap on the chassis blocking air flow, it makes it even worse.

I could really see the new Jato and the old rustler working well with the engine since they are lighter than the maxx and revo, but a MT is hard on an engine just by nature.

The stock head is small, is cast aluminum, and has thick fins. Aftermarket heads are larger, have thin fins, and are CNC machined out of billet stock.
The stock head makes the 2.5 'wander' too much in the heat range, and therefore is difficult to keep tuned.
Any good after market head makes it a much more reliable engine, without the nightmare tuning issues.

I totally agree with rolex when it comes to this subject. The ACNCM head is well worth the money.. along with the other machined aluminum heads. The Acncm heads go on ebay for $20-30 shipped. what a deal. and no more tuning problems!

Dude, Listen to those guys they know what they are talking about. I just got my new ACNCM head today and I spent $31 on it. The stock head was way to touchy. In fact in order to keep the temp stable I had to cut holes in my body all over just to get enough air flow. I can't wait to put that baby on and try it out. I look at it this way... if one or two people recomend something then maybe its worth looking into, but when everybody on this site recomends something you ought to go and check it out. Trust me... the best 30 or 40 bucks you will spend. Let us know what you end up doing. Later!

Tom

just be careful on the head you get as if you live in an area where your temps really don't get that hot or you live like in alaska then the ACNCM may be too much for you. the Hardcore racing one is perfect. I have seen the ACNCM on a maxx when it is really cold..57F Hey I live in Cali.Anyways that head may not allow your engine to really warm up and then you lean the crap out of it but that can ruin your engine as youare not getting anough lubrication in your engine. A thought to ponder on. Get the right head!!! and get your mids out of the gutter!!LOL

Yea i live in DC and it get pretty hot ware we live, and i get cold here to but in the summer it get hot.

I used to get Golden Horizon Cheapo Heads and had very good results w/ those...but I've recommended the ACnCM Head to friends that I help tune their engines and it really wakes that lil 2.5 up quick....

How is the CNC machined head that Traxxas sells? (The optional blue one that comes on the Revo.)

South

it is the same head just blue I would go with a ACNCM same price range but a lot better

The blue traxxas head is off of the Revo. The difference is that the blue head is machined aluminum, the stock head is cast aluminum. The difference? Machined aluminum breaths heat off of it better, easy as that. The ACNCM head is machined making it a lot easier for heat to dissapate off of it. Size also has some role in this.

The Powertune head (Revo) from Traxxas is NOT the same head as comes stock on the T-Maxx. It is machined aluminum versus cast aluminum. A world of difference.
