I was getting ready to get into the hobby and was going to buy a car for christmas. I am going to get an on-road car and was wondering what car would be best. I really want a kit car that I can build myself, so that I can gain an understanding for the cars. I was hoping not to spend more than $350 with radio and engine included. I was looking at the HPI Rs4 3 Type SS. Would that car be suffecient? If not what would you suggest?

in ur price range, that is about the only option as far as kits go. if u get a cheap AM radio, u will just come in under your budget.

there are alot of other cars i would recommend instead of the SS, but they will be far more expensive.

overall - the SS would be a great 1st car, plenty of power, plenty of parts support, and a fair engine and chassis.

Another car you can look at is the Ofna LD3 PRO. You'll still have to buy a radio and servos but you'll be getting a very nice setup. The Ofna isnt at the top of the list as a "Race" car but is a great basher and is a great ride to get started in racing. If you get more serious as times goes by then you'll prolly want to look at one of the more expensive kits.

For around $350 the LD3 is a decent buy. Just get the PRO not a lower version....the PRO will not dissapoint you.

Does the Ofna LD3 pro have a 2 speed tranny? And how fast will one of those go with all stock parts?

yes you can buy the LD3 with a 2 speed. Mine goes about 30 with the stock crappy RedHead. If you go with the Pro you should be able to drop just about any .12 or some small .15 into it and hit 40-50.
