  1. Bashing
I've been reading on the Traxxas forums that my current motor (castle creations 7700kv brushless) isn't the best for what I want.
I'm using a 15T pinion and a 90T spur and the motor is hitting around 165-175 which I think is a little to high.
Anyways, on the Traxxas forums the guys were saying that the motor I am using will overheat a lot, which I find is true.
So, what would be a good motor for bashing and just messing around for my slash. I'm looking for something thats on the cheaper side.
I will be using 2S lipo and a Castle Creations sidewinder ESC

a 4600kv castle on 2s and 19/86 is what I have on one slash and it kicks ass! Gets hot after an entire 5000mah pack wich is like 40 minutes.

I'll check that out.
Just wondering though, what motor would be powerfull enough to do wheelies. I don't care about wheeling, I just want that sort of power.

What about the Velineon Brushless set up? My LHS has it so its easy for me to get.
Also, what is the KV rating or whatever, and what difference does it make when the kv is higher or lower?

your 7700 wont wheely? The velinieon is nice, thats what I'm running in the main one I run.

Nope, doesn't even look like it is close to pulling one.
But, maybe I will buy the velineon then. What would be better the 4600kv Castle or the Velineon?

The Velenion is gonna run cooler in most cases since its a lower kv but the 4600 is a great motor too, I can't say either way wich to go, I have and love both....

Okay, well I'll go read about both, then decide which to get.
Quick question, what size of motor fits the slash?

the 3000kv velineon has wheelied my slash on the road from a dead stop with a fresh pack a few times , but the slash is a big truck with small tires, it would rather spin than wheelie..

Thats weird cuz my velineon is a pain in the but to drive on the road, its hard to keep the front end down, same with my 4600kv on 2s.

Doesn't matter if it doesn't do wheelies though, I just want a lot of power lol.
But thanks for the info/help, I'll probably be buying the Velineon next week sometimes

are they both in slash's? i put the velenion in my stampede and i can't keep the front wheels in the ground on grass or in the street. and it halls...

i'm suprised your 7700 isn't doing the job for you ibanez, maybe get the smallest pinion you can get and biggest spur. and you'll be set... that 7700 is a pretty good motor, just to high of a kv. it would do good if it was geared low in that truck but it would have to be geared really low....

I have a pretty low gear ratio on it right now (15/90)
But yeah, I don't know why it doesn't wheelie. The only problem I'm having is it overheats easily. I use the stock tires and a 15/90 gear ratio and the temps are in 170's, and I'v got other tires that Id like to use that are bigger. I'm thinking I'll buy the Castle 4600 cause I don't really feel like spending $170CAD.

TheVXL motor is plenty of power. I use it with a 2S Lipo and with the right gearing I can't keep the front end down. Even with different gearing, the front end still wants to lift up. However, the Slash is a long truck with skinny tires like mentioned above.

I'm thinking now I might try to sell my Castle 7700kv and sidewinder ESC. Then buy the Velineon.
How much do you think I could sell it for? They're in good condition and everything.

this past weekend i picked up the sidewinder 5700kv from hobby people and it runs great and i am running a crappy old batt like 1800mah does not last very long lol

Nice, I got the Velineon set up last week. I like it a lot more than my old 7700kv. The only problem I have with it is that it still runs hotter than I want it (140)
