I picked up a pair of carbon fiber towers from a guy on ebay and they worked great till it took a hard lick. Olds is right, the hard lick ripped my tranny apart but the tranny cases are relatively cheap. the great part was the guy who sold me the towers replaced the broken one for 10 bucks and wanted the broken one so he could address the breakage and maybe fix whatever the defect was in future designs.

I have since went back to the graphite towers simple because i had probs keeping the body from ripping with the square al. body mounts.

Saggy

Hello all from phx,az
Hello i an a newbe at rcnitro talk so i would just like to say hello and hope santa brought you all what you wanted ,(haha).
Well my Wife i mean santa got me a kick@ss XXX- nt 2. wow what a sweet
truck. well anyways i knew there had to be a post board for such a bad@ss
truck and of course i have got a question or two.
First , what would be a really bad@ss engine to install into the xxx-nt2 something that will just bolt right in. i was thinking of getting a wasp .12 but don't know if pull start or box start is better . i am kinda new to this i have a old xxtcr electric truck but don't know anything about gas trucks and cars, but i love my gas planes.

question number two is what are must have upgrade parts to get befor i finish building the kit i would like to make the truck as strong as possible.
Well you all have a safe and fun new years
Randy

Randy, the kit comes with a rear exhaust header, so i dont know if a pull start engine will work. it would be best to get a engine and a bump box. Pull starts suck. Phantom has some nice engines out this year.

The truck is almost bullet proof, new upgraded arms and towers make the truck tougher than ever.. when you build it.. you will see what I'm talkin about. if anything, i would get the dace mfg battery brace for the rear of the truck. www.dacemfg.com

on the new drake 2... you shouldnt need to upgrade arms.. the tower is still the same.. except its drilled instead of molded.. the arms are very tough..

Well thx again .
One more question, what are really good engines?something quick to get out of the turns fast.

the engine that i use is the CVR .12 good all around motor, i think its a little much.. but if your good on throttle control.. its a great engine. i am gonna try a phantom prolly soon.

Throttle control, says it all. Don't go crazy when choosing an engine. stadiums trucks are light weight, low slung and crazy fast...and for this lame driver, sometimes hard to keep between the pipes. Get yourself a good solid .12 and you will be more than happy. I can't believe the XTM comes with an .18!?!?!

I ran an OS 15 cv-r(x) in mine when I had it. A real dependable engine, but it was hard on the trans. I upgraded the trans with losi carbide diff balls, hamand ghuman diff nut and robinson racing aluminum monster diff gear and never had a trans problem again... at least until I took a nasty spill from about 6 feet in the air at WOT. Landed inverted and the first thing to contact the ground was my graphite shock tower. It ripped my trans case in half. But other than that, no trans problems for about 4 gallons, then I traded the truck off. The diff still actioned like new though.

It never pulled wheelies like the traxxas rustler 2.5, but it could have had something to do with the fact that I had a 5 cell AA NiMH pack ziptied right above the steering servo. I hated the pack being on the rear. It made it to heavy ended and always caused it to bottom out. After making the 5 cell pack and mounting it where I did, I gained a lot of steering and it made the truck fly more level and consistant.
