I only race.
Rebuild or refill shocks every race day.
Total tare down every race day as well.

Thing is i run 3 cars (Sc10 B4 B44) so it is a lot of work.
We only race 2 times a month. I'm not hard core
I fined one part or more each race that needs to be replaced.
I fined brown shock oil in one or more car each time as well.
working on my sc10 right now. found one shock with no oil
in it so i replaced all the innards and refild the shock just waiting
for all the bubbles to disperse. it is an RTR.
I only did about 8 laps or so in the rain on Sunday because
the race was cancel but i still lost all the oil. It was probably
the mud that did it. the o rings were not torn but they did look swelled.
I'm not hard core

BEST INVENTION/INVESTMENT EVER :D

patience is a virtue... just not one of mine

you guys never seen that?

its a vacuum chamber for oil shocks

fillup your fluid then put them inside (look close, there's 4 shocks inside in pic)
then the suction pump draws out most of the air inside the chamber

under vacuum all the air bubbles in the fluid grow to 2-5X as big
so they float to the top much much faster :thumbup1:

where we used to sit shocks overnight to air out... this does it in 10mins

Where whould one get one of theese?

quite a few of the usual RC accessory companies sell them, different sizes too

my one above was sold by Tamiya but i suspect they OEM'd it thru jap coy RIDE.
RIDE sells theirs looking very identical, just different colour i think.
The Tamiya one comes with a Tamiya branding sticker... DIY fitment.

Chamber is about 6" tall... fits all 1/10 shocks i'd say.

Only cars' shocks that won't fit would be Savage, Baja 5B and anything fat like Losi LST.

The old folks strike again! :D I've seen these and they work great. Just was never able to find one. Now ya have the youngins' looking all over for them. ;)

The day I asked what it was I get home to find the latest issue of XRC. In it is a pic of the vacuum chamber in their shock building how-to.

Sadly, it's one of the many cool Tamiya tools that are not imported to the USA directly.

Luckily we have eBay.

Well i have a points race on Saturday.
We run 3 qualys and a main for each car.
I run three in the points races.
So that's 12 times out. plus Marshalling after each time out as well.
Keeps you really busy.
In my kit i have 2 Venom Pro chargers
3 Reedy 5000 for the Sc10 and the FT B4
1 Reedy 5100 for the FT B44 which never leaves the buggy
2 sets of tires/wheels for each rig.
2 sets of arms for each corner of every car.
plus spears of the other parts i've broke in the past.

It Makes for quite a pile.

So far i've cleaned all the cars and tires.
Installed a Ball diff in the Sc10 after blowing up the gear diff after the last race
doing a couple practice laps. (it did last 4 race days)
rebuilt the shocks the Sc10 is complete.
Half way threw the shocks on the B4.
Will start the B44 after that.

Takes me about 2 days to get it all together. A little less if I decide to not do Nitro as well. But I have a 2 page checklist to fill out. I once left my radio at home and it is an hours drive back to get it. Never again.and this doesn't include the EZ Up,Folding table and chairs and cooler with adult beverages.Oh and the shock vacume tool rules.Been using one for years now.

It's funny how much stuff ya' gotta have huh? I personally race 1/8 Scale E buggy, and 4x4 Short Course, and I know what ya' mean! Before I leave, I have so many bags, cases, tables, and of course an EZ up. Being organized is the key, I will tell you that much! After the races, I do a complete tear down of the E Scale, check and rebuild the diffs, and also check and rebuild the Shocks. As for my 4x4 SCT, I don't do as much for that, but still clean it up very well. It's a pain (about 5 hours of cleaning) but I enjoy having them clean, and checking if everything is working...because honestly, nothings funnier than when someone who doesn't take care of their vehicle's vehicle breaks down due to a bad gear mesh, or something silly like that!

Yep, and no matter how much you bring, there is that one thing you forgot or break that you don't have. Never fails!
