Hey guys,

I recently removed my OS RGX from a buggy I just sold and now I have to pereserve her for the next rig. What is the proper and prefered way to do this? Thanks guys.

Tom

I read in one of olds97's posts that he removed the glow-plug used ARO and left the engine at BDC. I don't remember what else, but am going to follow this thread because I'm going to be storing my TRX 3.3.

Thanks..... I have been seaching the forum and I have read alot on how people store there mill for short periods of time, but I may be storing this one for a bit longer and want to make sure it is ready to go when I do. Thanks man.

Tom

If I'm storing mine for a while, I clean it thoroughly. Then cycle ARO through it when I'm done rebuilding it. Then I slip it into a zip-top bag and smoosh out as much air as I can before zipping it. If it's not in there way too long that should keep it pretty dry and free of crud.

Cool... I will give it a shot. I have heard of folks filling the entire cylinder head with ARO.... hence the whole pickling thing. Do you need to put much ARO in there? I am not sure when I will use this mill again. Thanks for the info Candyman.

I stored my Sirio .18 by cleaning it up, put ARO in side the plug hole and carb then turn the crank and slide the carb a few times then put a little more ARO in. I then put the plug in and cap the carb neck as well as the fuel nipple. After all that I put in one of those food saver bags and use the fuel saver machine to suck all the air out of the bag and seal it.

fishy mentioned something about pickleing a mill. i think he capped the exaust and carb and filled it up with aro..

i think as long as its stored in a sealed bag it dosnt really matter does it. As nothing is gunna get through the bag, is it?

Actually Air is an enemy to an engine as well. So getting the air out of the bag is a must. I have a food saver... provided the wife does not care... I will store it that way. Thanks for the Tip Rob!

Tom

Just make sure to put some ARO in there. If you store the engine in a sealed bag and there is a lot of moisture, the engine will still rust.

yeah I fill em up like Rob...I don't have one o them fancy schmansey air suckers like you high fallutin peepoles got though....I just use zip locks.....Great planes makes a package of rubber caps...I use those and they seal every orifice in my mills cept the fuel intake, I use a fuel tube clipping and zip tie that closed.......also use a blown glow plug when you go to store it filled with ARO, all the ARO on a new plug could blow when you go to use it later (the oil will stay on the element coil and if you shut down before burning it all off you super cool the element and you get a blown plug)..I keep a few blown ones and pull the element out so I know it's dead.....when you go to run it again, just drain it for a while on a paper cup or towel before slapping it in your ride.....

Hey..... Welcome back Fishy! Been a long time. Thank you for the tips on pickling the mill. I am going to take care of that here soon. As soon as I get another free second. Take care friend! and welcome back.

Tom

3 day old thread but I always wondered.....

Why not just drop the whole engine (maybe minus carb, glow plug and maybe backplate) into a tub of marvel mystery oil or ARO? Then you dont really need to worry about air or anything. Id just make sure to keep all o-rings out of there (so pull the carb and maybe the backplate).

too messy when you go to re-use the mill.....the cases aren't going to rust just the crank/bearings/piston head are in danger of that and they are all inside the case anyway....it's a real bitch to clean MMO off everything when you pull it out of the pickle jar......
