I am getting the Picco Outlaw .26 Monday, and I am gonna use 20% for the break in, but after that can I use 30% without having to add any head shims?

Isn't it that if you break in at 20% you have to stay at 20% ? I always was told that if i switch fuel % it will mess up the engine cuz its not used to 30% ???I'm thinking that you have to stay with what ever % you break in with.

If ya wanna use 30% break in the engine with 30%. IF you switch %tages after break in you will ruin your engine. IF I were you id use 20%. 30% nitro makes the engine lose compression faster than 20 or 15%.

I think you can go from 20% to 30%, but not 30% to 20% In some engines you have to add head shims when using 30%

Time to dispell the myth. There will be no, I say again, no harm to your engine if you switch nitro percentages. Break in the engine with 20%. That is a standing thing for all nitro engines (at least everyone I have come across or read about).

After the break in, you can run a different percentage if you want. Increasing/decreasing the percent nitro content requires you to retune the engine and that is about it. It couldn't hurt to run a tank through the engine without a whole lot of strain. This will help the engine get used to the new fuel (call it a mini-break in if you want).

The one thing you need to make sure of is that you have the proper oil content in the fuels you use. Too little and the engine will get eaten up pre-maturely. Too much and it will run cool but lack in performance as it does not get enough nitro to burn.

As for the shim question, you need to check with another expert or the manufacturer of the engine.

Thats what I thought, even though I was just thinking and the Picco .26 prob will still kick @$$ with 20% BTW skymax what beach do you live at? I live on the Outer Banks (a island off NC coast)

I vacation at the Outer Banks every now and again. I live in Virginia Beach.

With that mill you may want to just start with 30%.

Just my opinion. I'm thinking of switching up to 30% on my RZV-01b.

Sky is right, it is ok to change percentages, you just want to "break it in" again. Nothing real legnthy, just idle it a tank, then take it easy a tank, and you should be fine. You will have to adjust your settings a little. Reason being is that the combustion point for 20% is different than 30%. Whichever % you use to break it in, use that same percent to run it. I use Trinity 30% in my v01b, and use Byron's in my P5.

What about adding a head shim to the picco .26 when running 30%? You guys think that will be nessesary? BTW thanks for all the quick replies:bow:

I think they will suggest in the manual you run 30% only. You shouldnt have to shim it for that very reason. It was made for it.

Most good .21's are.

I guess my Ofna Hyper 21 Eight Port isn't a good .21. It says to run fuel between 4 and 25% Nitro with the suggestion to add a shim if using 25%.

I think I'll stick with the 20%.

Twiztid25, I think you have the answers you need. One last suggestion, give the owner's manual a good read. We can tell you what we know about the engines we run and the things we have seen in the past. The Picco Outlaw is a new engine and a high performance one at that. The owner's manual will give you the Picco recommended limitations and other things specific to their engine.

Good luck and happy motoring.

yeah thanks everybody, this has been alot of help. BTW skymax, drop me a email next time you get down to the obx, and maybe we can have a bash session:mobile:

Same goes for you, if you are ever up this way...we'll get Pirata and go kick up some dirt.

Dont misunderstand what i said. There are MANY good .21 mills out there. Most of which, run on 30%. The REST of the GOOD mills run on 20-25. Your mill is rated for 25% but I am certain it would run on 30.

And like mine, it tells you in the book to run 30. And no, i dont need to add a shim. Its made to run on 30 out of the box. Which if his is, it will say in the book. And if it says to run on 30 in the book, it will also most likely not have to have a shim added.

Did I say it better this time?

You are so easy to fire up.

But, I must be missing in my book where it says to run 30%. I'll keep looking though. ;)

:stick:
Kind of reminds me of what I do to you mod types once in a while...poke the bear with the short stick.

yeah you almost sounded like you knew what you were talking about for a minute J/K. Thanx 4 all the help:smoke:
