I just love where I live. Especially when the Air Traffic Controllers at the airport (just 2 miles away) decide for whatever random reason to reroute departures to the northwest runway. So since about 3:00, I've had what seems to be a never-ending stream of 737's and Airbus A320's flying over my house at less than 1000'. God I hope there are no red-eyes....

Wow that blows, the only time I hae ever had planes fly over my House is When Pres. Bush visited my Town and his 747 when right over my house, at around 1000 feet, talk about loud and every thing was shaking. Have fun with that Candyman,

Well, the 3rd one since I made that post just flew over. Somehow my girlfriend is still asleep.

Well that SUX big time...
This is why I would never own a house any were near a flight path..Or train tracks.
I lived in a apartment by the tracks once.
I moved out a week latter. That was the last time.

I live in both a flight path and less than half a mile from the tracks... And ear-shot from the local speedway.

You haven't had a fun night until you've woken up the next day to find a plane prop blade in your backyard (happened about 6 months ago, to the next door neighbor. about 50 feet off from where i sleep).

Build a concrete bomb shelter to sleep in... Make it extra thick for noise dampening. Happy sleeping!

I'm about 2 miles south o fthe landing path for John Wayne and when we have the Santa Ana winds (reversed winds from the desert) the planes take off my direction instead of over the ocean. That's the only time I can hear them, but it is annoying.

I would rather have them outgoing than incoming. Incoming, they dump fuel, which is NASTY on car finishes.

Good time to get her up. It could be fun. Tell her the neighbors can't hear here over the jets and you may get a great surprise. Its worth a try.

Eddy's always scheming...

In CA I would have to say the planes are not dumping ANY fuel anywhere near land or overland that is populated. The Greenies would freak if they did. And so would the 50,000 or so Porsche and Mercedes owners in Newport Beach.

They do here, amigo. I should have taken a closeup of the hood of my olds. It looked like the paint was bubbling off. The roof and trunk weren't much better.

i live next to ohare. I'm talking there is the air field an expressway and my condo! i get them coming and going all day. did i mention on the other side of me i have a train yard! with a new metra station a block down! after a while its kinda like a melodic ocean! they just tore down a truck repair/shipping depot right behind me, the funny part is since its never really quiet here, my kid slept right through most of the demolition that started 630 every morning.

OK, hate to bring up an older post, but I've gotten to the bottom of all this. See, it wasn't just an isolated day. Nope. They're doing a 2-month long renovation of the main runway. So I'm still getting jets over my house all day. And they're being so nice! One minute I'm getting departures (higher altitude, but a bit louder) and the next minute I'm getting arrivals (MUCH lower, but not quite as loud). Tolerable I guess if you don't mind jets sitting on your house. Here's a couple quick pics..

However, we have had a bit of a treat as of late. See, there's an Air National Guard unit attached to our airport. I guess it's one of the few left in the Northeast. And they have a little fleet of 6 F-16 fighters. Perhaps the most gorgeous plane ever (except for the P-51...). And last weekend they returned home after training maneuvers outside the area. They took at least 4 hops on Saturday and again my house was in the pattern.

So I'm still up all night, but at least I'm getting a good show....

My parents old house where I grew up was on the approach end of runway 31C at Midway airport in Chicago. I remember the old days with rabbit ears for quality tv reception and the tv would get all fuzzy every time one flew over, you also couldn't hear for a few seconds. I can sympathize with ya. Go figure though, now I work at an airport!

Jet, you must be one old geezer if you remember rabbit ears! I thought cable came out the same time tv's did?

J/K I remember turning them a certain way trying to get reception. Had 3 channels. Now I have over 200 and there still isn't anything on.

You remember having 2 rolls of tin foil sitting beside the TV..
Or when there was no remotes...Then came the clicker? Mom would fire up the Kirby vac and the TV would change channels.
Or the neighbor with the CB would bleed through the speakers.WOW That took me back.

Don't forget the antenna you mounted on the outside of the house that had to be rotated to bring certain channels in.

You were stylin if you had the motorized version that rotated via a wired remote box.

I remember the tin foil wrapped around the antenna's.
The remote... when the channel changed, "ka-chunk" and the big knob on front would turn...
And the moron up the street had a linear on his 28 channel cb. Always coming through at the best part of the show!

No crap bro. We had 2 tv's back then. One in the living room and one in the kitchen. The one in the living room had a picture and no sound. One in the kitchen.... no picture but it had sound. No clicker for either one.
