It depends on what version you have. If you have the standard RTR, your best bet would be a full engine swap and a 2-speed tranny. If you can't afford to do that, the very first thing would be a new header and pipe. That cast header sucks. Get a nice round header and a good breathing pipe. Also, a 2-needle carb would be great. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to find a carb that is threaded into the body like the HPI engine. A 2-speed is a must. Regear it a bit. That should give you more speed.

If ya have the .15fe, Id rip that out, and get a different mill. Them are HUGE pains in the ass.

My 15FE has not given me any troubles what so ever. The engine has run great since the day if was first started. I set the needle a little on the rich side and have not had to make an adjustment yet, the engine runs very well. I use the HPI Roto Start system and starting the engine is a breeze as well.

There's no doubt the .15FE is a reliable engine. But in it's stock form it's a dog. I'm still running mine for now, but that's because I just feel like running it into the ground before I drop my OS .15 in it. The FE has a bit anemic porting. I actually did some mild port modding on the sleeve and it seems to be a little better, but you're only going to get so much out of it. The single-needle carb really limits the snap and speed you can coax out of it. And the stock cast header is way too restrictive. All in all it's a good engine to learn on. It gives just enough power to have fun. But if you're looking for raging speed from this ride, the engine is better off being replaced.
