Hey Guys,

Well, I was afraid to let this out of the bag because I was afraid I would be booted off the forum for doing it... but I went ahead and bought the OS .30. Yes, I know what everybody is thinking... "Why would you spend all that money on the CRT and then drop a crap motor in it, like the .30?" , especially after so many folks told me the mill was crap. Well there were a few reasons I chose the .30. First off my LHS made me a deal I could not refuse and I got the mill at a great price. Second, I am still a newbie engine tuner and I wanted something I could tune easily. The other reason is that I just like OS mills. They never let me down in a plane, and so far so good in the buggy. I figured what the heck. It is not a fancy Italian mill, but who cares. I am in this sport to have fun, not to try and impress people by how much money I can spend. I do not plan to ever run a ROAR race and if I do decide to I can always replace the mill anyway. Well I just thought I should let everyone know. I wasn't planning on buying a mill this quick, but I got to looking at the truck with no engine, and decided that this was not going to work... I had to have an engine. So I strolled down to the LHS to look at an OS .21 VZB and he had the .30 there, and it was really an issue as to price at that point. Alright... I've done it..... Let the bashing begin!

I think you made a great choice.

Congrats dude! I can't wait to get one for my LST.

Thanks guys,

I must admit, that is not the initial responce I thought I would recieve. LOL I am happy with my purchase and I guess that is all that really matters anyway. :) Sure, I would love to put a P5 in there, or even the OS .21 VZB, but until my tuning skills improve, I will just stick to the lower end mills. I am very excited and can't wait to get it installed so I can start breaking it in. Take care, and again... thank you for all your help.

Great choice. Personally, a person who will flat out tell you a mill is crap and not tell you WHY they think/feel that is full of it and needs to go back to Nitro 101.

Anyone who can give you a ligitamate reason why they did not (or in your case did) buy an enigine at least has a good idea what they are talking about. Congrats on the new mill, I hope you turn out to really like!

Thanks tweak. I hope I like it as well. If it is like any of the other OS mills I have owned it should be great. Sure it is not ROAR legal... and probably never will be, but I don't race ROAR so it works out for me. My locak track allows the .30 in the unlimited class, so I am ok there. Actually most folks that didn't like the mill did give me many reasons why they didn't like it. Most said the nickle sleeve was junk, but according to OS the nickle sleeve is double coated with a silicone-carbide coating that makes the sleeve just a hard as chrome. Others didn't like the crankshaft design but to me as long as it works. Some just didn't like the fact that it was not a true "Race" mill and that is ok too. I spend most of my time bashing anyway. I just can't wait to get that truck running. Thanks again.

Good for you, man! I've been an OS fan for a long time as well! Personally, I think a mill is only crap when it doesn't do what it's supposed to do versus what it's perceived to do. Sure, some may be harder to tune or may not hold a tune very well, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's crap.

I mean, while I've personally never owned an Italian mill, I've heard some can be a bit tricky to get dialed-in, but I've never heard they make crappy mills!

If you buy a mill, take care of it, learn to tune it and it doesn't perform, then that ONE mill is crappy, in my opinion.

Congrats again, man! Have fun with that biggun!

Thanks Monkey Wrench. You know I have never looked at it that way before. You are right... if a mill does what it is supposed to do and will hold a tune... than it is doing exactly what it was meant for. Thanks for the insight and I can't wait to get thing mounted and fired up! Take care.

Even the smallest factors can severly depreciate an Enigines performance or tune. Some may think Itallians are easy to tune and hold one great, I think otherwise. I, however, have only owned one. On the other hand I have owned a handfull of different O.S mills and the ONE SINGLE mill that gave me problems was messed up when I got it and O.S still replaced the whole thing, free of cost minus shipping.

I still have not the slightest clue about ROAR specifications or how to race in an organized scenario, and to tell the truth I have no interest in it. I think at one point actually racing was meant to be fun and enjoyed by anyone with an old Tamiya Frog. Now it's been so highly overated and made so competitive the only way you are going to race is if you really put some time and effotr into it. For me it is a hobby and it sounds the same for you.

As long as a mill can take a big fall or slam into a wall a couple times it is pure quality machine worksmanship to me. Durability and the tune make the mill. All you need do is take care of it and you will not be let down in most cases.

Congrats on your new setup being finished...now run it!!!get a larger CB and see what it runs like w/ stock gear and overgeared.....I bet it's just like the RG and runs better (IMO) when it's overgeared a lil.....when's the first race???

And hey, if you don't like it, send it to me!

In the event I do not like it...I will send it your way my friend! :)

Sorry Mods... I don't know how I double posted... I went to edit it and it posted both of them.

Oh, well, in that case, it's a piece of crap! It loses a tune the minute the weather changes one degree! It's allergic to nitro fuel! OS .30's don't run well in Maryland! People would rather use them as a paper weight!

Address is listed on my profile, brother! Just send it my way and I'll relieve you of the burden with my apologies!

Thanks Plaid... I was afraid of what you were going to say the most! LOL I hear once you piss of the fish... your in big trouble! LOL

I have heard that going up a few on the CB give you more top end with the .30. You loose a little of the low end grunt, but that doesn't mean anything when you are passing the guy in front of you for first! What do you mean by overgeard? I have heard that term alot lately and I just want to make sure I understand what it means.

The first race is never going to happen if I don't get this dang clutch assembled! I think the first real race is sometime late March if the weather holds. It is 65 here today, I wish I was out there now.

Good luck with. And you can always do like I do, someone walks up and says something you have is crap, just kindly smile at em and say "I just smoked you!" I love that!
