I figured out that many of my steering and throttle/brake problems are cuz my servos are weak. They both are like 4 years old and I've never done any maintenence to them. Is there anything I can do to my servos to make them stronger? I don't have the money to buy new servos yet. When I get the money I'm buying the waterproof traxxas 2075 servo for the steering and the waterproof 2056 traxxas servo for throttle/brake. Also, is there anything I can do to my steering linkage to put less stress on the servo?
 
Check to make sure your pillow ball caps are not too tight. Also, if your using the 4aa holder that came with your truck to power the servos, upgrade to a 5 cell nimh hump pack. Huge difference in performance.
 
What are the pillow ball caps? And getting that hump pack is top on my list of little upgrades. I just need 40 bucks to get one
 
The big hex (5mm) that's behind the rims, on the carrier. Loosen them one at a time until there is play, then, ever so slightly, tighten them until the play is gone. You can take off your servo saver and manually work the steering to see if it is binding. Should move easy.

I would suggest if you're thinking about traxxas servos go ahead and get a couple hitec 645's or futaba s3305's. About the same price and much better.

Are they waterproof? I want waterproof servos. I don't want to waterproof them myself cuz it's not garunteed.

You can also put bearings on the steering posts that the servo connects too. They come with teflon bushings and spending a few $ on 4 bearings will remove slop and make it as smooth as possible. This makes the servo's power be used more to turn the wheels vs fighting mechanical drag.
 
Pretty sure you need six don't you? 4 for steering, two for throttle?

A lot cheaper than $8 for 2 of traxxas's bearings.

I can't remember now olds, I think it would be 6. I wrote 4 originally but you must've read it before I edited it to "2 extra".

Where do I put bearings on the throttle thing? I'm gonna need more detail on where they go

Take off the front skid plate, those two aluminum posts with the steering arms on them are held on by two screws on top of the chassis. make sure the little flat on those aluminum pieces fits the skidplate properly when you reassemble it.
 
On the "throttle thing", it's the pivot/post that is near the engine. It has two bushings on the part of the post that pivots when you apply throttle. If you take out the top screw, the pivot comes off. Take the bushings out of the pivot and replace them with bearings.
 
Would really cold weather affect my servos? Since it's winter I've been running my truck in temperatures as low as 15 degrees ferinheight (I think I spelled it right =] )
 
The cold could slow them down a bit. Your problem lies in your power source. A hump pack would make the biggest difference. Then upgrade your servos. The 2056 isn't bad for throttle/brake duties. Swap it there when you upgrade your steering servo.

I agree, I converted to the 5 cell.. it made a nice difference. I didnt have to change the batteries every time I ran it.
 
Ok. I'm gonna get my dad to buy my the bearings and a pull start and I'm gonna see if my mom can get me the hump pack. As for the servos... God knows when the hell I'll upgrade them. I'm gonna get either 2 2056 waterproof servos for steering and throttle brake or I'll get a 2075 waterproof servo for steering and a 2056 for throttle brake. All depends on how much money I can get
