Is the WASP .18 a discontinued engine? Got a chance to buy one fairly cheap, was thinking of fitting it to my GT.

So out of all of you experts on here, not a one of you has a thing to say about the WASP .18?

Yes I'm trolling, somebody speak up!

Tower, Horizon, and Hobby People do not carry them. Tower only carries the pullstart and one way bearing. Sounds to me like it is discontinued, though it is still on the Orion website. Might want to shoot them an email to confirm.

Thanks S.D., I figure even if it's discontinued I could let it rock till it drops. :D Still on the fence whether to get it or not. $50.

Good enough, I guess . . .

Well, this engine came in today. Now, I'm not a **total** foo' with eBay, so I saw this coming. For $50, I think it's still ok. To avoid any misunderstanding and bad rep with this seller, I'll keep the auction link private.

Although the auction claims NIB, the shaft has been cut, there's gasket deposits on the exhaust port, and one of the backplate screws shows signs of tweaking, it looks like someone's tried to mount it and has been inside.

Fortunately the cut fits my flywheel and clutch, and it looks like it's never been run, but of course I will be breaking it down before first startup. I was mildy dissappointed to find the carb has no low speed adjustment, but I think it will be fine. All in all, it's still a new engine.

This is just a heads up for some of the newbies out there - it's been said many times, unless you're willing to take the risks, eBay is not the place to shop for engines. This engine retails from $149-$169, so for $50 + shipping I think it still worked out. All in all no complaints so far.

Scratch that. Oh well. I will give him a chance to come clean before posting a 'beware.' Shoulda' known better, but don't have the bucks for a new engine right now. What a prick.

Oh what a freakin drag!! I would get ahold of Ebay and Paypal if you used it too! Let them know whats up if nothing else. It is fraud and they need to know, Also, if you want to have any chance of getting money back, file as soon as possible!!

Nothing like a bent con-rod to brighten your day...

That sucks.

The wasp 18 wasn't a bad engine, but it didn't produce the power the OS 18 CV-R has. I ran a wasp 18 in my maxx for a while. Very dependable, started easy, tuned easy and had decent power/RPM's. It had more power than the 2.5.

Mine had a LSN screw though. It was a slide carb and it was on the slide like most engines.
