Wanted to give a big ole F'U to Apple.

Understood.

So downloading that program did exactly what then? Aside from satisfying your need to retaliate over somebody doing their job? Don't hate the player, hate the game. I own no Apple products because I generally agree with your overall stance.

I've met the manager and am planning on going this afternoon to chat with him. About the stores "policy" to retrieve people's information. I've spoken with him several times, and he has no problems with the JB processes. I've even demonstrated in store how to do it several times on the demo devices. I then have some little teenage punk tell me that legally I am required to turn over my device to him to download my personal information onto the store computer, and tell me that he is doing it for my own good, because the device is ruined because I have jail broken it. All I did is show him proof that the device will be just fine after reboot.

If he was "doing his job" and required to copy my devices memory into their computer, then I'll give this thing to the first person I see walking into the store. (after deleting the important stuff)

Just happened to be passing by the mall this afternoon on my patrol's so I decided to go and price some accessory's for my ipad 2

I hope you don't do this kind of personal stuff when you are on duty.

And I agree with the general stance on Apple as everyone else. Own an iPod but thats it.

I guess it all depends what we want out of our equipment.

What others see as limitations I do not, for the simple reason that my Mac and iphone lets me do what I want without having to fiddle to much with it. I had plenty of that in all the years I used Windows and linux OS's.

Their business methods are questionable I agree. But I still enjoy the gadgets I have from apple.

Nope. Left the house early cuz I had to return a joke of a universal car kit at best buy and got done quick, so still had time to kill before my shift started.

What's it matter if he does? He uses the device for work, not like he's shopping the local adult video store (this time :D ). Good chance we all do stuff that isnt considered official buisness while on the clock (including this forum).

While this is true, I still wouldn't do anything like that. He only shopping I've done on duty that I can remember is a flash drive from walmart when mine died, and food.

So if I need equipment for my job I should do my shopping on their time? Call me old school but that's just not right to me. "Hey boss I need a new pair of shoes. I'll be back in an hour or so." Yes he uses it for work but I would bet he takes it home after his shift. Especially because he's an officer, I would hope he could find better use of his on duty time then tellin' the kid at Apple how it is.

Not callin' you out by any means Alpine, just expressing my .02 ;)

I understand and agree with you 100%. Like instated, I wasn't "on duty" yet. Yea, if ihad seen something illegal or observed a crash or something I would have had to handle it being in.my unit, but my shift hadn't started yet.

Went back to the store today to talk to the manager and he happened to not be there. I did speak with one of the Assistant managers and explained to him what happened and he just started laughing. He said " we could not figure out how they all got jail broken, and thought it was an employee messing with his co workers. That's a pretty good joke" I then explained to him about how an employee attempted to download my device and he said that there is no way in hell that he was supposed to do that and requestednthat i point out the employee, who wasn't currently in the store. Sucks but I didn't remember the dudes name, but I gave him a description on the guy before left. So we chatted for a few minutes about the benefits/downsides of jailbreaking and he ended up JB his ipad2 before I left.

All depends on your job. My job if I need something then I go get it. Alternative is the job doesn't get done. I'm not talking shoes of course and in not saying he was or wasn't (wasn't as it turns out) on duty, but without us knowing the circumstance we have no way of knowing or judging g the use of his time. What if he was in the mall already, they have sheriff annexes at malls. What if he was walking doing his job, stepped into the apple store. So at this point he's still doing gis job at work. That was my point of "so what". Criticizing his role as an LEO was not part of what the intent of the thread was. Just like you, just my 0.02 on the topic.

I don't think your 2 cents is worth that much. He already told you his shift hadn't started yet, and even it it had, why do you care?
For what the police do for you and everyone else, you have no right to complain. where EVER they are in uniform, they give everyone an added sense of security, whether or not they are on duty yet.

The only reason I even mentioned that I ws in uniform is because I wanted to show the audacity of the guy to try and steal the info from a LEO.

Not that worried about it. Now that his employer knows what he was doing, I'm sure he won't have a job for long.

Ok I see where this is goin' so I'll be smart and stop telling my point of views after this post.

First, I fully and completely respect those on the police force. I don't think any of my posts came off as complaining, but if they did that was not my intent. I merely wanted to voice my opinion that I don't think police officers should be shopping on the clock, as alpine agrees. I don't like it when government officials (mayors, senators, governors, police, etc.) misuse taxpayers money no matter how small. Maybe I was wrong in saying something in the first place, who knows.

Until I posted he hadn't said he was off duty.

Just happened to be passing by the mall this afternoon on my patrol's

His thread starting post said he was on patrol's which lead me to believe he was out driving patrolling his routes "on duty" and decided to stop and enter a store to do a bit of shopping while he was in the neighborhood.

I can understand stopping for a coke or lunch or donut or whatever thats fine, those are 5 minute in and out situations, but browsing in a mall doesn't cut it for me.

There. Done.

The only reason I have an iPod was because I got it as a business gift at a trade event. I don't have iTunes on my PC, instead I have a plug-in I bought for Windows Media Player that allows me to add music and movies to it...

Otherwise I'll never own any of their products...

And if there were a law against jailbreaking a device, then my devices would not be jailbroken.

Ok,I stand corrected on that one. I thought jailbreaking allowed you to obtain and freely use apps that you are supposed to pay for. That's stealing IMO and that's why I called you out on it. Even though you call it petty, the other issue I called you on does have a law against it,you yourself write tickets to others for it and yet you go home and drive your personal vehicle with it or have it or whatever it was. I'd have to hunt it down because I don't recall specifics on what it was.

Done here! :sign_ontopic:

Joey, the one i bought is MGTEK dopisp. I think it was $15 or $20 at the time (over a year ago). I rarely pay for shareware (like WinZip) because I use it so infrequently. But after dowloading and using the 30 day trial of MGTEK I actually bought it. It was worth the money to me. Easy to use (runs in the background of WMP) and when you plug your iPod in it shows up in WMP for drag and drop. It works great and is worth it to keep iTunes off of my PC...

HTH...

My two cents:
using-a-mac.webp

:)

Got a few guys at work with iPads, macbooks and tons of iPhone's. One of which is a software developer and he honestly uses his macbook for work use because he essentially has a linux box (macbook) that he can connect to our unix servers with directly. That image just struck me as funny and is now stuck to his door of his office at work for him to come back from vacation and see tomorrow. lol
