well guys that time has come. I've got 3 gallons on my spec now and its acting up a little. i highly suspect an airleak so I'm pulling the engine out and putting in the P5 thats been waiting in the wings. this will have me up and running faster for racing this weekend, and give me time to tear down the Vspec and seal it with RTV. i think ill also replace the bearings at this time with Boca's since they are known to be a problem on these engines, better safe than sorry. its not dead by a long shot, just an annoying inconsistant tune. yes ill be going over the fuel system too, i redid the lines within the last 2 weeks and that didnt help though, next ill pressure check the tank.

anyway, ill at least have a review comming of what i think of the motor compared to the spec.

You could be leaking out of your front bearing, I'd change them both if it were my mill for some reason OS' bearings suck!

LOL....I know whats wrong.....................check your clutch ?????

argh, i found the issue during teardown. my clutch is blown to hell! shoes were worn down well into the springs, the bell is grooved. time to replace it all but the flywheel and nut. this all explains the hunting tune, random flameouts, and high temps. oh well, time to make a parts order.....

LOL...don't you love it when you're so sure you nailed th eproblem and after you do some serious tearing down it was an easy fix......actually I hate that.....

yeah really. what a PITA. got the parts from the LHS today, maybe ill put it back together while I'm a work tonite. I'm glad my shower worked today though, i washed about 2lbs of dirt down the drain last night while cleaning the buggy up for the teardown, that last track i was at was horrible!

NICE^^ dump some Lye down the drain.....it will clear anything up but don't use it a lot cause it will eat your pipes away.......once in a blue moon it should be fine......was that the track you doin the bash at???

the track was hobby hut, the track I'm trying to steer the bash away from because i dont think its the best venue.

and i can dump all the lye down the drain in like, they aint my pipes, i rent! haha. i usually use the foaming draino though, it works pretty well.

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, and agree! LOL!

well, i decided to do it anyway. the P5 is now in the buggy waiting to be broken in tomorrow for racing sat. Vspec is oiled and sealed in a baggy till i can get to it, I'm going to do the bearings, check for pinch and send it out if needed, and then seal it up on reassembly.

know what you mean, i had a prob with my clutch on my ws7II. for a while no clutch problems at all then all of a sudden slipping, engine running hot etc...after alot of searching, thought i had an air leak, also thought the springs were too stiff, just checked everything. turned out the batch of bearings were junk and no matter how much i cleaned them some how they still put oil in the cb and caused it to start slipping. nowi run avid and have no problems.

My bearing came bad from the factory on my v-spec. Thats why i had soo much trouble with it. If i can't sell my storm thats where the V-Spec is going. I have heard of people running them in truggies, however i just orderd an EbModded Nova .28 8 Port for it last night. They are having a sale 330 instead of 400.

plaid, i havent had to use a pinch service yet, so ill call and talk to both before i send anything out.

PiErow, you will LOVE that motor, if you can handle it. and i say that in all seriousness. that is a LOT of motor, better practice modulating your trigger finger now. if that fancy radio of yours allows you to slow down the speed of your throttle servo, do it. if not, expo the crap out of it. what clutch are you planning to use with it, i highly recommend a WERKS adjustable, they are on ebay right now for 58.99 shipped. i just ordered one for my top .28 because it would slip every clutch i tried to put in it, yes even aluminums.

still heat cycling it. ill know tomorrow when i race it.

i traded my v spec for the rex p5 months ago....you'll love it

the p5 with a werks clutch about 1-2 turns in and red loctite...and you won't believe the speeds it can pull

i have to worn ya tho....the p5 is a Complete dog until around a gallon....

then it wakes up with SUPER POWERS and comes ALIVE!!!!!

i raced it today, and have half a gallon through it now. a very nice mill to drive right now. first round it came off at 260, exactly the temp i was looking for. second round it came off at 253, after the main it came off at 243. these are the max temps recorded during the run with my venom onboard. so far its been a very nice drivable mill, no top end to speak of though because its not fully broken in yet. the Vspec is more aggresive everywhere in the powerband, but i belive the P5 will wake up in 2-3 more weekends of racing. i will keep both motors and use the vspec exclusively for a nearby large track which requires a lot of legs, and the P5 for my regular track which is small and technical.
