Not sure which forum this should be in, so apologies if I've posted in the wrong place...

Can anyone point me to an on-line retailer in the US that will ship to the UK?

I'm looking for a Hyper .21 8-port with pull-start, around the $120 mark.

would you be interested in a bulk buy from the US? i'm looking to get a savage, but my LHS wants £430 for a RTR one (no kits) :( and i'v seen them for $300 for a kit at some US stores.. its gotta be cheaper to import em :)

www.towerhobbies.com

its tha best. i order my 12 engine from there. saved me 100 euro. ( live in netherlands) :D

the stuff @ tower are so much cheaper then in england or netherlands.
and my engine arrived in 4 days.

go check it out

yeah, been looking at tower, prolly gonna be getting my savage from there, including all radio gear + reverse module etc... comes in at about $500 + $35 delivery... still cheaper than getting a kit from the UK without all the stuff!

its still cheaper to buy a savage brand new from tower than it is to buy one second hand off ebay in the UK

did you guys ever try ebay? most of them will ship to you if you pay the extra shipping its worth a shot: www.ebay.com

Yeah, I actually bought one off ebay over three weeks ago and I haven't received it yet. When I emailed the guy two weeks ago he said that OFNA has moved building and hadn't been able to supply him with any engines for 10 days, which kind of implies that he was offering engines for sale and taking payments via PayPal before he actually had anything to sell.

I emailed him a couple of days ago asking for an update but he hasn't bothered to reply yet. I'll give it a couple of days and then I'll ask ebay/PayPal for a refund.

you think its cheper but trust me it aint. iv been there done that
1:you can't avoid customs even if it is marked as a gift. It ended up costing me the same as if i had found the chepist in the uk
2:radio gear from USA is illegal here in the uk so u would have to buy new radio gear
3:suport the hobby in the uk else every thing will only get dearer

1. Being hit by customs is just luck of the draw. I know other people that have bought the same engine from the same supplier in the US and have not suffered any UK C+E charges.

2. I want an engine, not radio gear or anything else.

3. We are being ripped off by greedy importers. How come OFNA can sell the hyper 8-port for the equivalent of 65 pounds in the US but CML in the UK want 160 pounds for the same engine? I do support my local hobby shop but he doesn't deal with CML and I refuse to line CML's pockets because they are greedy.

I tend to agree with you, a kit (MP7.5, Hyper 7, Savage etc etc etc) is cheaper, especially with the weak dollar at the moment but you won't save a huge amount.

Example (from Towerhobbies)

A Mugen MBX5 less a discount from front page of website and shipping will cost you $624, you'll probably get an exchange rate on a C/card of about $1.75 so thats £356.....but....C&E will charge around £50.. total £406. If you shop around in the uk, you can get one for £500.

It definately won't get through customs so you'll pay the VAT at your door when its delivered. You won't save as much as you think BUT you will save £100 or so. (I've been there and done it). It depends on how patient you can be and whether saving £100 is worth the extra wait.

However an engine is ideal at it may slip through customs and the postage won't kill, I've been VERY tempted to get the 8 port, race Hyper 21 for the same reason as you. As the total cost would be about £100 as you say.

I say go for it and tell CML to poke it.......
