Hello all , ( after my previous post ) total newbie problems
i got the truck running fine even thinned out the mixture a little so the truck has picked up in power and still runs fine.
but 1 quickie

Upgrades: ok I'm not too good at stripping an engine and rebuilding it ( in fact i never have)
but i have been loooking about the forum for ideas to upgrade from the bog standard 21.
i wanted to ask about exhausts they seem to come into the forum alot for savage owners.
also tyres i have noticed dirt bonz tyres on the hpi webby seem to say that the performance will increase using them ?

is there a good sequence i can follow to upgrade the savage , i doubt if i will ever race the truck properly but i now frequently take over a local BMX dirt track and throw the savage around a little.

I've checked alot of online shops , and the technical know how is way outta my league.

First off, the Savage is a pretty durable truck right out of the box so don't worry about bashing it. It can take it. There are a lot of potential upgrades to this truck. I assume you have the .21 version so there's room to upgrade. Most would say the first steps would be the 4-spider diff mod, the linkage mod and steering upgrade. Those will all improve the durability and reliability of the truck. Then it's really a matter of deciding what you want to achieve. You could go with a bigger engine. Different wheels and tires. Shock upgrades. Different chassis plates. Reverse. 3-speed. Roll cage. The possibilities are endless.
My one sage bit of advice? Get some decent tools and take some time stripping and rebuilding the truck. Take the engine apart so you can see what pieces are in there and learn how they all fit together. Just take your time and make sure you put everything back where you found it. After you do this once, you'll be amazed at how confident you'll be with repairs and upgrades. No matter what truck you buy, it will need to be fixed or maintained at some point. So I say just dive in and get really familiar with how it's assembled.

New Engine, Exaust, Filter, First Off Get A Really Good Engine And Keep It Running Well. After That Your Savage Will Be Really Fast. Get A Roll Cage So You Dont Mess Up N E Thing. you Should Be Good From There. Pick Up Some New Shocks But I Just Wait For My Old Ones To Crap Out Because The Stock Savage Shocks Are Already Preety Good. Look Into A Venom Fail Safe I Need One Of Those I'm Always Woried My Savage Is Gonna Drive Away. Venom Also Has a Speed And a Temperature Device. I Think It Would Be Cool To See How Fast you Are Going. And Keep An Eye On Your engine Too. I Myself Am Looking Into A Digital Camera You Should Get One Too SO We Can See Your Savage On Here.

For the stuff CandyMan posted:
4-gear diff upgrade
Steering Upgrade

These are about the only two that are worth doing in the beginning. Later on, you will figure out what you want to do.

The bowties are lighter than stock and tend to grip better on hardpack surfaces than stock tires. Stock tires work well on loose loamy surfaces and grass.

I agree with Candyman on everything but taking the engine apart. Sorry Candyman, I really don't think this is something a newbee should tackle. Besides that, if something happens to your engine, you will more than likely want something better. I think it is about $60 for a piston and sleeve. When the engine craps out, add another $100 and get a Wasp or something.

I waited a bit to do the 4 spider mod on mine. Had to replace the housings.

Study the manual so you know where everything goes. If you don't have one go here and print one up. http://www.hpiracing.com/index2.htm (look under instructions) The Savage is kind of a pain to work on the first time or two because of the TVP's. After you do the 3 mods mentioned you should have a little more confidence.
Then just upgrade as you go to what suits you.

thanks guys ill check into all the above, i must admit i was seriously impressed at how much info was supplied with the truck, like the whole manual showing you how to build and i suppose how to strip the engine as well.

as for a digi cam , got one I've simply got the bog standard truck at the moment but looking all over my local area for a new body shell, this is 1 thing i want to change right now.
theres nothing wrong with the shell right now , just want to make it mine
again thanks for the great advice i think ill tackle what i can when i can ( probably time might be the only problem )

again thanks appreciated

guys 1 other thing if you dont mind, regarding body shells and applying decals,
has anyone tried apply the decals to the inside of the shell obviously before painting, I'm trained mainly as a graphic designer and have and used a glue which dries perfectly clear.
i thought about covering the printed ( outside ) side of the decals and placing them where i want on the inside the shell, just an idea surely i can't be alone in this thought?

your not, fantom racing made decals for the inside of the body but i dont think anyone else has, but it is a very good idea.

yea I've seen people use magazine clippings and use some glue and then paint over it..

thanks digger nice site with some nice decals to use, i think if i do lay my hands on a new shell, i might do my own i dunno havent decided yet and well money shall we say on the short side this month.
