So I need some basic knowledge. I do a majority of all my shopping online, so the knowledge I and maybe others need is for example in my little bit of research on one of my rigs on YouTube he was saying that he swapped out his shocks for 70mm shocks. When he was comparing the 2 shocks old vs. New they looked almost identical in size. So fast forward I purchased 70mm shocks online and when they arrived they huge and stiff as a board.

What is everyone process in acquiring new shocks/suspension parts when you can't go go to a store whare we or I supposed to look for in descriptions that might be able to tell me how soft or how they size them.

Also this thread is started by me to upgrade my FMS atlas 4x4 power wagon.

70mm doesn't sound too long on a 1/10 scale... but I only have one crawler (HPI Venture) and haven't felt the need for different shocks at this point.

For my other models, I measure the stock shocks, and pretty much match their length, as too much variance affects how the suspension works... of course if that's your goal, you now have a base-line. Sometimes though, you need a new shock tower to mount a significantly longer shock, which of course may require new body posts to clear the new tower... etc., etc., etc.

It's not so much the length but just the overall size the ones I picked up were about the same size in length but total diameter was way bigger along with the spring strength or resistance. And I'm looking for a easy or softer suspension so it travels easy for my crawler. What do I look for on the points as in spring resistance and overall diameter because like on Amazon they do t really list that Info.

Believe me, I have been researching shocks, and the best way to set them up, on a Capra I am working on currently, for months. I have gone about it the exact same way you have, reading forum posts, and watching YT videos. That lead me to order a set of 90MM Desert Lizards, but I had some fitment issues with them. So, in continuing my research, I found some posts and videos talking about the Team Associated Enduro shocks, also 90mm shocks. The way I found these shocks was simply reading and watching what others have said, but if you find them to still be too stiff, depending on the brand and model of shocks you purchased, you can easily buy extra springs, both internally and externally, to soften the ride to your preference.

I have not yet decided on which shocks are going to give my rig the best functionality, as I have not finished working on it, and so I have not had a chance to try different types of setup with either set. I have no given up on the Desert Lizards, and regardless of which set I decide on for the Capra, I know the other set will not go to waste either.

Both of these sets of shocks are very functional, with the Enduros edging out in overall smoothness. I am working on setting them up for droop, and have found a way to droop the Enduros, while the DLs are literally designed for droop. So, now it is all going to come down to what length and spring rate of the shocks I ultimately decide on. One thing I have found is that there is very little information on drooping specific brands of shocks, outside of the DLs (they provide their own videos on the subject, and I came across plenty of others as well), so I simply used the information I had gotten out of studying the DLs, and applied it to the Enduros, and found that I indeed have a functioning solution. So that I don't wear people out by continually posting the same picture in different threads, I will just give you the link to the thread, and in post #9 of this thread you can see how much I have been able to draw in one of the Enduros, by adding an internal spring, AKA droop. This brings your top end down, lowering your center of gravity, while still providing most of your extendable length. Given these began as 90MM shocks, I would imagine that even with the internal spring, they are still capable of extending out further than a 70mm shock will. So, you would not be giving up anything in ride height, and would still maintain your flexibility.
