I currently have a old RC’s car with a Etronix Photon brushless motor, just curious if anyone now’s a good upgrade motor to go with.

Many Thanks
Curtis

Without knowing the specifics of your RC platform I'll just say have a look at Hobbywing motors. That the first place I always look.

I've run some "bottom of the barrel" no-name brushless motors in years past... the cheapest of cheap. Never really had any problems with them except for bearings failing very quickly. I'd replace the bearings, and that would bump up the durability of motor a lot.

Perhaps you selected the wrong Etronix Photon motor to begin with and/or geared it wrong and overheated the thing?

Hobbywing, Castle, and Tekin just to name a few, all have good motors.

You need to know what size your motor is, and what the kv or turns are for your current motor. Make sure it has the same shaft diameter as well.

Most reputable motor manufacturers will list what the motor's intended use might be, whether for buggies, truggies, monster trucks, etc, as well as its intended drivetrain, like whether it's best for 2wd or 4wd vehicles, as it does make a difference, which is typically based off the kv and power range the motor can handle, amoung other things. But generally, the manufacturers have enough info to help you choose.

Note: whenever you change a motor, always check the temp of the motor while doing your first run. A cheap infrared temp gun from Amazon is a fairly necessary tool in this hobby.

Bit if you want more help here, you need to tell us what car or truck you have, and any info from the motor you can give us.

Hi Curtis! WELCOME TO RCTALK.COM!!!
There are lots of motor companies out there. Once you figure out the size motor you have and the KV requirements for your kit, there are plenty of motors for sale at all different price-points.
