Because the sweet spot is constantly changing on that mill. My 3.3s were a lot of fun except for the poor tuning. It seemed like once I'd get her dialed in just right then the outside temp would change a few degrees and back to chasing. I'm just now getting the hang of tuning though but there are easier mills than Traxxas. JMO

It is that way with most new mills. Especially if there is an air leak or an exhaust leak. Patience is key. Proper break-in is paramount!

are 3.3 engines harder to tune than others? i can't do wheelies or anything

IMO they're more difficult than they should be for the consumers that Traxxas is trying to market to. I'm not bashing them at all, I really liked my Revo and the mill got easier with time. Once you get about a gallon ran through her she'll lighten up on you some.

One thing that made it easier on me was to start at factory settings every time I ran, warm up a bit and then tune from there. My tuning skill have gotten a lot better just by sticking to that. If I'm just out for a day of bashing I can get my mills to a happy spot pretty fast.

Traxxas Top Fuel just is not a good, quality fuel. It is a "hobby" fuel. It is not stable. You want a good "race" blend. I myself use Sidewinder 20%/12% oil.

Good save there buddy. I'm falling asleep here. I'm running Sidewinder too and it seems to be pretty consistent between gallons.
