Well, I'm planning on making myself a hardwood floor, and was wondering some things... First, I want an opinion from you guys here at RCNT.

Hardwood #1

or...

Hardwood #2

Which do you like better? And for this, another question.

Flooring, which do you like better for a base, 1/2" or 3/4" plywood. I'm not sure yet. Just want the best "bang for the buck" if you know what I mean.

first off...the links don't work...second, I would suggest that you take some digital pictures of the room you're gonna put the stuff in so we can tell which one will go better with the room...haha, that kinda sounded a lil homo

ahhh...I guess i didn't read and understand the whole post...back to junior high for me

If your sub floor is good and it don't squeak when you walk on it i would go with 1/2 ,if it squeak go with 3/4......

the best wood floor for your buck is the real hardwood floors not that Laminate stuff it gets hazy and after that you can't do much with it .....like the real hardwood floors you can sand down ,can't sand Laminate down......

hope this helps ya .....

AoD,

I did this same thing in my house. Real hardwood flooring costs a friggen arm and a leg. The laminate is cheap but like that guy said you can't sand it.

Being the penny pincher that I am, I bought this stuff:

http://www.lowes.com/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=53578-75633-112-200

It's called "Parquet" and it comes in one foot squares. The best part is that it's cheap. It works out to a dollar a square foot (just for the wood). You then have to buy glue (nasty nasty nasty stuff). You then trowel the glue down and start laying tiles.

If you are smarter than me and you can afford an extra 50 cents a square foot, buy this stuff:

http://www.lowes.com/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=86359-75633-412-888

The Self Stick Parquet has glue on the back. You just peal a sticker thing off and lay it down. The glue you buy for the normal way sucks and you will have nightmares about it.

Also, this is a hard job! I laid 900+ square feet of the hell that comes in 1 foot sections known as "Parquet". I swear to god, I'll never install Parquet again.

However, if you want to save mucho bucks and you want a nice hardwood floor that you can sand when you need to, Parquet is worth the effort it takes to install it.

(by the way the lowes links need your zipcode and then they pop up)

um...that was already "suggested" in my post...so actually I didn't...he just can't be original..hehe

no matter what though...I still own you and everyone on this board...

Well, I'm going for the hardwood flooring. As for zip code, I didn't know. Lowes is stupid anyways lol. But I'm looking towards the "single plank" desing. I'll be doing it diagonal to the room. Since I can get all the tools I need for free, might as well. I love the look of a nice oak hardwood floor. :)
