Was out mowing and watching my boy run his slash around…and had a thought šŸ˜‚.

Day 2 with the slash and he already has wanted more power in it. May see where this is going šŸ˜‚

If we repower the slash, I’ll have the spare bl2s esc/motor…on to the trx4…

Will preface this with this won’t be the long term solution in the trx4, I have plans for it, but just not right now. It also isn’t used for technical crawling currently, it is more used as a trail vehicle you could say right now.

Would it be worth the swap from the xl5/21 turn currently in the trx4? And would it be a direct swap for the most part?

I get it’s not a sensored brushless system and I don’t believe that’s much a concern right now. It will eventually get a build (I may have read through @MVRCA bronco build 😁). Right now my son just rips it around the yard/timber and uses it as a ā€œrecoveryā€ truck for the minis šŸ˜‚. Until I get another 1/10 crawler to play with him and get something set up that’s all it’s going to be.

So would y’all do it or not?

And @DavidB1126 , I think I know what to put in the slash from your other posts, but give me your recommended system for that 😁

On my scx10ii i bought the factory brushed esc and various turn motors. After a few years I tossed in a trinity 2 pole monster hp 540 brushless and a 10 or 13 year old castle mamba esc. I say go for it.

Not gonna lie. I thought you were gonna say slash met mower and was slayed into pieces and what's the best course to rebuild. 🤣

I'm a hobbywing guy. 10BL120 G2 3660. 3700kv would be my personal preference. Especially if your just running on 2s. 90 bucks. BEST combo that there is out there for that price. Can't beat it. Currently I run the older max10 sct which is discontinued but the 10BL120 G2 is basically a newer revision of it for much cheaper. (And this is a sensorless system, they do make a sensored system but is more for the race cars)

Or if you want to spend some money, the Max10 G2. 80A / 3652 since it's a bit cheaper, that combo is sensored.

Castle systems are great, but are alot more expensive than hobbywing. Spektrum electronics are okay but they have their issues.

Edit: for the 10bl120 G2 combo, it comes with a xt60 plug so just make sure you either have a battery with that plug, or you can simply use a adapter. Imo I tend to stay away from adapters since they add heat / resistance. But since I'm a racer... 🤷

Another edit: the 3660 series motors are a 5mm shaft. Can't remember if it includes a pinion or not. But if it doesn't, you will have to supply your own pinion. Just search for hardened steel 48p 5mm bore motor pinion and that's what you need. Currently I'm running 23/86 and RARELY does it overheat so if you go with that gearing you can play until the battery hits LVC basically.

The 10bl120 was what I was considering, but I had thought I saw you say the 4000kv at one time?

Yes to keeping it on 2s, and yeah we run xt60 (and xt90) connector on our stuff, I cut everything off and solder on the proper connectors.

Yea I run a 4000kv in mine with the older max10 sct system. With the 10bl120 they don't offer a 4000kv in a 3660 motor size. But they do in a 3562 size. I do run the 3652 in my rustler and does amazing. I just prefer a 3660 in a short course truck since it's a little longer and has more torque. But a 3652 will work perfectly fine in a short course.

The 3652 might overheat. Just depends. In my rustler especial with bigger off-road tires it will sometimes overheat depending on how hard I'm driving it. But on stock size tires it was staying cool.

But if you go with a lower kv and want more speed you can always gear up if you want too. šŸ˜‰

Edit: was having issues with my rustler a few weeks ago but I fixed it. It was just normal wear and tear on the motor after 2 years of abuse lol šŸ˜…

Would the 3150 kv in 3660 size be to much for the slash on 3s?

Yea. You can also do the 3700kv which can do both 2s and 3s. But you might need to gear down for 3s if your on throttle alot.

@luke66 and @Lukedavis are always making me get a 3s and send my cars. Which I need to do.
