I’m wanting to do the bumper light bar for my trx4 sport and was wondering if I need just the light bar or do I need the power supply too? Wondering because I’m trying to keep this sort of a budget build and wanted to know if I could get by with plugging the light bar straight into the receiver.

There should be 1 or 2 "sockets" on the receiver to plug lights into, so you shouldn't need an additional power source.

You have to check the bumpers lights requirements. I looked at 3 and all say the power supply is needed.

so if led says it needs # ps then youll need that for it to work.
bec amount to rx
esc use of ? power
servos power needed then on hard corner make that 2x.

Thanks man!

Ok, the bottom half of this made no sense. Could you reiterate.

How many channels does your receiver have? If it has 3 or more, just plug the 3 wire connector (or it might have a 2 wire plug) on the lights into channel 3 (or 4, 5, 6, if you have them). If you have a 3 or more channel receiver and radio, you'll be able to turn the lights on and off from the radio.

Edit: I took a look at the TRX4 Sport's online manual, and it says it comes with a 2 channel radio/receiver, so we'll have to figure something out about how to hook the light up to the ESC (maybe it could run off the battery itself?). @Greywolf74 might be able to help you (not to put you on the spot Grey!), he's very knowledgeable on electronic stuff. The other option is to get a receiver with more channels, you also most likely need a new radio that can control those extra channels.

I have the Traxxas head and tail lights for my Defender, and it also came with the positive and negative wires separated. I just spliced the 2 wires into one receiver connector, and plug it into my receiver for power.

it clearly says requires

Requires #8028

IT CLEARLY DOESN'T REQUIRE PART 8028! SEE POST #8 ABOVE! 👆

I clearly explained what needs to be done to not have to buy another Traxxas proprietary, profit inducing crap.
I have the 8027 kit. Wanna know what it says in the descriptions?

Yes I do agree that “it clearly says requires 8028” but I'm using one led light bar. Pretty sure the power supply is needed if you have multiple plugged in. Pretty sure the sport has an open ch3 so unless I'm plugging in multiple light then I don’t think I need it. I'm not buying another traxxas brand product just so I can maybe have more than one later. I already dislike tracxas markups (their batteries”) and I swapped my connecter as soon as I got it.

Not to be the one to pop your bubble, but as I said above earlier, the TRX4 Sport's manual says it comes with a 2ch receiver, so you won't be able to just plug the lights into you receiver, as it won't have a spare port for that.
