I got a tekno et48 2.0 on the way and was thinking of doing a budget build using parts I have and cheap stuff I can find on Jenny's.

I was eyeballing these spektrum motors and team corally servos. Anyone have major red flags against these? Seem impossible to beat for the price, imo.

As long as you don't set your expectations high, you'll be fine. Your gearing, tires, driving style, run time, and servo saver setting will play a huge role in what is going to work... and for how long.
I've raced enough to know that fancy electronics don't win club races. I think the biggest downside to the motor is being uncensored. I'd really just like to have equivalent power on the straights and give up a little of the finer throttle inputs on tighter sections. Our track is pretty balanced and I think I could do repeatably with something budget oriented. I can always upgrade down the road.

For a few years, I used a sensorless combo to race with. Whatever Castle did with their Mamba Max combos back in the day... they were so smooth. Sure, I may have never took a first place win, but I never came in last place either.

Just keep in mind RTR electronics don't get a good reputation for good reasons. The lower quality components used in making them is done to keep a RTR package price attractive as possible. Like you said... upgrade as you go. Once you get into racing, the competitiveness nature of things can do weird things one's psyche.

RustyUs isn't wrong about one's competitive nature. Sometimes I'm like what's extra $100-200, as long as I can save a tenth of a second here or there. 😆
Oh yeah, I've been racing oval, on-road and off-road for a few years now. Some of my rigs I spent too much on. I figured this was a good starting point and truggy isn't a huge class anyways. I really just wanted to have more than ebuggy to run at 8th scale events.

The Arrma motors are my motor of choice for ballsy 4s and 6s trucks. They may not have the power of a 1717 or 4990 but they're snappier and more responsive. I have them in 2 of my 6s Arrmas and my 4s Corally Punisher. The plugs are 3.5mm. Do not replug the motor the wire are extremely hard to solder, make extension with the right plugs on both ends instead.

The bullet plugs on the Arrma 6s motors are 4mm, not 3.5mm.

Spektrum 6s motors aren’t bad motors, I have 4 6s motors working great after 3 years of use.

Obviously the cheapest option is running what you have so it's got a power hobby servo and HW esc and 1900kv ebuggy motor. Honestly I don't know how people make these truggy cans fit in tekno chassis. The space for everything is tight. So far I went through the suspension geometry which was all kinds of messed up and I asked the seller if he knew what was in the shocks and diffs. Also curious if it has vrp pistons since it has stickers.

I was trying to set this up on my radiomaster mt12 with an ER5C V2 but the channel mixing is all messed up and i can't figure out why it's doing what it's doing ever after i deleted all the mixes and setup inputs from scratch. basically it is mixing throttle and steering. if i turn left the car gets throttle and turns left, if i turn right it gets brakes and turns right. I updated firmware on the receiver and first i copied my ebuggy profile. that gave me the problem described so i thought maybe because the ebuggy is on a different model receiver it was messed up, but nope. even a fresh build of the model profile is doing the same thing.

Sounds like a mix is actually set, because that is a feature. I know you said you started from scratch but, can you start from the blank that comes on the mt12 or even copy another model’s profile that does not have that issue (if available)?
