has anyone had a primer on a gas tank malfunction and basically not pump the gas into the carb?

i pump and pump but it never makes it past half way and then when i do get it to the high soeed needle it wont pump into the carb.
can you disassemble the plunger and just blow in the exhaust tube to get it to work ? or am i in line for another $12 part?

yep.. put finger tip over the exhaust, pull start rope, and it will prime the engine for you... thats the 1st way, 2nd way is to pull the hose off the pipe, blow into it till fiel hits the carb... i do the 1st on my nitro mini rs4, and the 2nd on my tamiya tg10 due to the coils of fuel tubing around the head for extra fuel..

also mak esure the tank is not cracked, fuel line not pinched, or HSN is no tshut all the way.. i pull the plunger out of my tanks an dstuff a screw in them.. mine all leaked air in those areas loosing tank pressure

I took my primer off and put a screw in it and epoxy around it pretty sweet.

This is the best thing you can do. Primers are notorious for having air leaks. Then do as CRSMP5 mentioned to prime it.

epoxy? anything specific?

thanks
just the info i needed
i will try it in a bit.

hey i wnet ahead and did the mods like they said in the article. when i cover the exhaust and pull the cord, it doesn't send gas to the carb.
possible air leak somewhere? if so what some common places to look.
with the tank off i covered the fuel out port and blew into the tubing to go to the exhaust to "fill up" the gas tank with air. i didnt hear any air escaping from the tank itself.
i looked over the carb to see if anything was out of whack and ditn see anything.

Start with the easiest places. Does your ride not start? Does it start and run lean no matter where the needles are set? I prime my truck by putting my finger over the stinger and give a tug or two to the pull start. If that doesn't work or you can't get it started or it is running lean, you might have an airleak. Make sure your fuel tubing is fresh. Check around the carb and backplate. There are some good articles around, let me see if I can find something.

ok thanks
well it hasnt run in a long time, and after a engine rebuild i returned the needles to factory settings. now it wont start. i know a problem was getting gas to the carb which brought me to where i am now. i can't tune it if its not getting gas.
so if i drop some fuel in the carb it fires up for 1-2 seconds revs real high and stalls. i think its only burning the gas i put in the carb. so its prolly too lean.

Try taking it off the exaust and blowing in it. If that doesn't work you have a leak somewear in the fuel line or a cracked tank.

ok heres what i did
the problem was tuning it was so lean that even with the plunger removed it was still getting so much air from bad carb setting that it wouldnt start.
so i brought it to my lhs and he tuned it right and it fired right up. all this after 2+ years of sitting on the shelf. i did rebuild the engine though.
so now when i want to prime it it works perfectly thanks
