I am having trouble with my O.S. 55 engine. I have installed this engine on POLECAT 50 size model. Last week I have a hard landing on this model. It was a little nose down which impacted on the engine which broke the propeller as well as damaged the landing gears.

Now after repairing the model when I try to install the propeller in the engine shaft, the propeller doesn't move smoothly as it should move. it gets stuck to the shaft and feels like some metal part is grinding in the engine shaft area.

Even i could find some metal grinding behind the back plate as i tried to start the engine once with the starter.

Can anyone help me with this problem

Thanks

sounds to me like you nosed in hard enough to actually Bend the crank shaft a bit. hate to say it, but you ll likely need to replace the crankshaft for the motor.

Totally true. There is no trans or drive train on the plane engine to worry about, so if it's not turning properly, the damage is inside the engine. You need to do a total tear down on it and inspect the parts. After impacting that hard, you either bent the crank or the connecting rod. If you're really lucky, it will be the con rod. Let us know.

Hey rolex,

thanks for your help. we did do a total analysis on the engine and opened it up. We were lucky that only the connecting rod was bend we just og it replaced with the new one. now the engine is just fine and giving full performance.

thanks pal

If the engine was on it's down stroke and the prop was stopped instantly on impact, the connecting rod is the weakest link.
So, you were REALLY lucky. Good to hear that, now go hit the sky.
