Hey guys, I ran nitro cars years ago (35 yrs) and really enjoyed it. I recently bought two exceed nitro cars with the vx-18 engine. I set the engines at 3.5 turns off closed and cannot get them to start, or if I do, maintain running. I’ve tried 1/8 of a turn each side of the 3.5, and even 1/4 turn. I’ve also changed glow plugs. I use a rechargeable red cat to heat the plugs, fully charged. Any advice?

They might be set a little too rich. On my Exceed Nitro’s with the .18 I set my hsn at 2.5 turns out from closed and the lsn flush with the collar. I used these settings for break-in and never had a problem. Also make sure your idle gap is set right 👍🏻

When I did a break in on a VX18 just recently, the HSN was flush with the brass at the top. hope that make sense.
Also, lsn is flush with the inner ridge, and then maybe half a turn clockwise, I never touched the lsn.

All i can tell you is that these engines run great and are super easy to tune.

Did you prime the engine, when you block the exhaust with a finger and then try and crank the engine, does the fuel flow into the carb?
You should see the fuel enter the carb trough the clear tubing?

Thank you! I had thought about leaning them up further, but was worried about running them hot. I’ll give it a try!

Thank you! I did prime the engine, and your descriptions make perfect sense. The half turn clockwise is what I needed to hear. I was afraid to lean it up too much. Definitely giving this a try.
