This coming spring we're taking the kids to San Diego for our first major family vacation. Naturally, we'll be hitting the zoo, Sea World, Lego Land and going to the ocean (I've never seen the ocean in person - sad I know). I believe we'll be spending a full week there and wanted to know from the Cali folks what other good things there are to do and see in the San Diego area?

hmm..you are hitting everything I would go to in SD. If you come up to the LA area, I suggest Universal Studios. I enjoy that everytime. Disneyland is overpriced and way to crowded.Plus There is City walk right out side the theme park.

I think you will be pretty bussy with all the things you got listed, just a word of warning the beach can be pretty cold in the spring..

Thanks Jon, we were talking about going to Universal Studios, still in the early planning stages. Disneyland was a definite no-no, our kids are 9 and 11, maybe a tad too old to really enjoy it (when compared to the cost of it) and I don't want a murder wrap, cause I'd very likely have to cut someone if I had to go.

Yeah, wouldn't be swimming at that time of the year for sure. But I still wanna go just so I can finally say I've been to the ocean. :hehe:

I can't really say what to do the only time i have been to Southern Cali is when i go to the DUNES.....sand lots of sand....Have fun on your trip

Been a while since I was last there. Balboa park, which is next to the zoo, has a few museams and attractions. Just be out of there when it gets dark. Black beach used to be clothing optional so you may want to steer clear of that. Other than that San Diego is a nice place to visit, lots of shops and resturants and the weather should be pretty fair in the spring. Enjoy.

My suggestion is not to buy a 1gb or 4gb memory card for your camera. like I did . Instead by 4 or 5 64 mb cards and each time you fill one with 60 or so pictures. Change it out with new card. This way if some steals your camera on the 5th day of your vacation thay won't get a card with 400 pictures .And memories you can't replace. Believe me I learned the hard way .

Oh man that sucks. We just got a new camera too. We have 2 - 2Gb cards. As cheap as they are I'll probably get another 1Gb before we go.

+1 Universal Studios..... I haven't been they since I was 19 (used to sneek in with different girls everyday!) Back then I loved the "Back To The Future" ride.... I know the rides must have changed, but if they still have it, don't miss it!
Also you can't go to the ocean for the first time and not get wet!!!!! I know it will be really cold, but that's what wet suits are for. It's kinda funny how first timers always say "IT'S SALTY"
Anywhoo.... have fun, and keep us posted this spring!!!:D
